damn my engine gets HOT!!!!!! polini kit. 14 carb, proma gp pipe, i have to run a nine otherwise my bike will not move. i changed the needle to the thickest one i could find, and dropped it to the leanest setting. i got some power, but now its too lean. when i richen up it looses all power again. what the fuck. i added a suped thick head gasket and that helped a bit. any advice???
Also, the bike seems to have no power band. what is going on?
If the engine is running hot I always check the timing.
check air leaks as well, you could be too lean

Check your points gap & condensor. Your timing may be too "retarded."
i have run this kit on many different set ups: e-50 with 4 petal and 20phbg, za50 same carb, another e50 with new 15 bing. and i have always had this problem no matter what i do. maybe its the kit????
the kit has a hot spot on the piston. it's the skinny side. Sand this down a little.
then, put a 6 back in and jet back up to where it's supposed to be. by running a colder plug, you are jetting too lean, which is overheating your kit.
my setup:
polini 64cc kit
bing 14mm
leovinci pipe
B6HS plug
78 jet (using kit straight outta the box)
I sanded the mating surfaces of the cylinder and head to get rid of the high points, which raised my compression by less than 10psi, and my jet size dropped to a 68. It's amazing how warped they were when I got them.
Also, the bing 14 doesn't cover the full range from idle to WOT very well.you either have to jet for top speed (which will be way too rich at idle, and you'll have to shut the bike off at lights and such) or for daily in-city use, which will be too lean at WOT. I jet for daily use, rather than racing speeds, and can cruise at 40 and top out at 45 before overheating.
Has anyone swapped out different bing needles, I have noticed the new bings come with shorter ones (richer) than the old bings. Also aren't there several different diffuser sizes on bings what sizes are you guys running? I know what ur talking about bings not being very good at full range mix operation. but couldn't this problem be rectified by examining the needles and diffusers, as well as possible playing with the size of the idle hole and slide cutaway etc.

How many mm's before top dead center do you have your timing set at?

i'm gonna sand down some hot spots on my piston, drill some tiny holes in my piston, and give the cylinder a quick hone! that should do her up!!!

ok just gave my cylinder a little cross-hatch action, drill some speed-holes in the piston (haha cooling oil holes) and sanded down the common puch polini hot spot on the intake side of the piston.
results: NOTHING. same shitty performance.
could you possibly have a piston/cylinder mismatch?

I think people underestimate the importance of correct timing.
I had mine set at 1.2mm btdc--shitty performance/acted like a rich running condition.
I advanced it to a little less than 2mm btdc, which yielded MUCH better performance throughout the entire rpm range:)
I would try advancing it, at least a little, and see what it does.

is your pipe turning blue, or baking off its paint? if you are too retarded, you will be dumping more late burning gas, and the pipe will shove it back in, heating the pipe, jug, and skirt of the piston. Totally counter intuitive. Advanced runs cooler... sometimes. Besideds its cheap to change. go through a wider range... etc. The compression thing makes me think either early or late burn/ detonation/ that sort of thing. IS the piston getting black down the skirt on the port side?
I run mine at 2mm btdc as well. stock is .8 - 1.2, but we've got more gas we're trying to burn in these bigger cylinders, and that takes a split second longer.
