can someone explain this to me...

this is probably a really silly question, but i don't know too much about how exhausts work. there are some exhausts that are made for 50cc and then some that are for 50-70cc and then a whole other group for 80cc+... so my question is why can't an exhaust for an 80cc work for a 50cc? or can it? thanks in advance.

Re: can someone explain this to me...

If you are talking Puchs, then the 80cc pipes are set up for angled exhaust port cylinders. If you are talking in general, pipes are tuned for specific cylinders and motors. If you just willy nilly toss a crazy dirt bike pipe on your 50cc puch, you will have problems getting into the powerband, and your performance will actually decrease. If you toss an 80cc pipe on your 50cc motor, the same rules apply.

Re: can someone explain this to me...

I use a 8P 0n a 50.

yeah, that's kinda what i thought, but i was hoping it was possible to mix and match. a lot of cool pipes are for scooters and birt bikes.

Re: can someone explain this to me...

In general its all about what is acceptable for your bike.

certain pipes are made for really high end powerbands. using them on a 50cc motor would leave you with virtualy no bottom end. some people are ok with that though.

also like brennan said you would have to have enough power from the engine to get to the powerband of the pipe. This is uncommon unless you are running some exotic super high end pipe though.

what's a good pipe for a stock puch maxi with a 15mm carb, 15mm intake and a high flow air filter? i really want a proma gp, but i am having a hard time finding one. any other suggestions? thanks.

Re: can someone explain this to me...

Don't forget to match the intake and exhaust on your cylinder to your intake manifold and exhaust header. I think for a stock cylinder, a homoet 4p would be good.

Re: can someone explain this to me...

proma circuit, homoet 4p, tecno bullet, leovinci circuit . . . there are loads of good ones. look at the wiki page on puch exhausts, it summarizes all of the major ones.

Re: can someone explain this to me...

Hayden, email me in a couple of days. I will probably have an extra proma gp by then. Brennano@gmail.com
