Extremely Smoky

Cleats Onionpockets /

Having jetted my Puch Maxi (techno boss, stock #4 cylinder/piston, head milled to fins, tightened clutch) so that it's running perfectly on all plug chops, I'm still getting tons of blackish smoke from the tailpipe. My transmission fluid level hasn't been changing, so I can only conclude that it's coming from the engine itself. It's quite curious. The bike runs very happily, it's just stinky and smoky. More so than it was last year when I hadn't raised the compression or adjusted the piston shape.

Any thoughts?

Re: Extremely Smoky

Since your trans fluid level isn't lowering, you can rule out the oil seal issue.

What kind of 2-stroke are you running?

It's the brand that has the bottle with two sections. You know, the one where you squeeze the bottom section, filling the top section, while looking at the measurements marked on the top section? That way I know I'm getting the exact amount I need when filling up at the local stations. I run it till it hits reserve, which means I need .7 of a gallon of gas. So, I measure the oil out accordingly, then do the pulse filling to mix it in the tank.

This one

Re: Extremely Smoky

Looks like crappy chain-saw oil. and probably why you're smoking lol

Get some Motul, or some other synthetic at your local motorcycle shop...

Also, maybe invest in a Ratio Rite :D

Re: Extremely Smoky

exhaust could be holding some black gunk and when you heat it up and blow it it shoots out back as black smoke

Could be, though the stock exhaust was fairly clean when I put it on. Problem is, because of how and where I ride, I don't always have a gallon of premix available. So I need to be able to mix on the fly. So synthetic two stoke oil is likely to not smoke anywhere near as badly?

Re: Extremely Smoky

i switched to cheap pennzoil conventional oil to break in my kit after i'd been running synthetic motul. a good quality synthetic definitely produces less smoke. you can always fill your easy-mix bottle with the good stuff :)

Re: Extremely Smoky

Yeah just fill some water bottles with the amount you need and take them with you. I use motul 800 an barely have smoke

Re: Extremely Smoky

you need to premix dude, you're not getting a good even mix. just strap a little plastic gallon jug to the back and use that to mix in and then dump it in.

or figure out how to mount a 2nd tank to the ped for more range.
