Re: yay metra 65!!

Update

i'm almost through my first tank of gas. i've pulled the head to look at the inside of the cylinder and the cross hatching of the hone is still very apparent.

i tightened down the head bolts a little more, and the drip from the decomp nub area stopped.

i'm now running an 84 jet in the 15mm bing, but it's still fourstrokes on the top end if the outside temperature is warmer than about 50-60 degrees. i have 78, 80, and 82 jets on order.

Re: yay metra 65!!

Still 4 stroking with an 84? Do you have a high flow filter? What intake are you using? I am running an 86 in my 15mm bing with the same setup (biturbo vs proma gp though). 88 jet did what you are saying the 84 does. I am over 150 miles in and through my 2nd tank and still see the hone quite clearly as well. I guess a few more weeks at 3/4 throttle.....

Re: yay metra 65!!

You know, it's a funny thing. The bike just might have been having a bad day yesterday. It was about 70 degrees today and I took it out again with the 84 jet and it didn't four stroke.

It was four stroking all day yesterday and it was driving me nuts. I was getting worried that I might have some other problem like a timing issue or something. A ride later in the evening eliminated all of the high speed problems I was having though, so it would seem I was too rich.

I haven't pulled the plug to check things out yet, but I rode for a good 10 miles today at some pretty high speeds with no obvious ill effect.

I a running a high flow filter, it's the metal mesh one with the rubber coupler that treats and 1977mopeds sell.

Re: yay metra 65!!

That's the one I have, with the metal mesh.

Update

I checked my top speed with gps on an 80 degree day with an 82 jet and was disappointed with my 37mph max. The bike was also running like crap that day and didn't want to idle and the low end was super boggy.

I have since downjetted from 82 to 80, cleaned the carp, and moved the needle to the second notch from the top. I went for a nice long 18 mile ride and was paced at 40-42mph. I don't think I was quite at full throttle at the time. Ambient temp today was around 70 degrees. The ride initially went off without a hitch, but towards the end I stalled three times when coming to a stop. I think the stalling was due to either switching over to "reserve" too late, or a fouled plug. I haven't pulled the spark plug yet to check it out.

This is all with 16x45 gearing.

I am now on my forth gallon of gas, mixed with pennzoil conventional 2 stroke, mixed 32:1. I pulled the head today and the cross hatching in the cylinder is very visible.

Feelin' pretty good and getting psyched for Cinci!
