Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

Whee... this has me confused.

I got the polini bottom end, 50cc kit, 19mm dellorto race carb, and simonini pipe.

I've done all the busy work, and was getting around to mounting it today.

However, the carb hits the frame (yay variators). I flipped the intake around a couple times, and I can't find a way that keeps it from hitting something (either it's the float bowl on the swingarm, or the top of the carb bashes the frame.

Getting a larger belt doesn't appear to have any way of helping it either, there's just not enough room in there.

I know some of you run this setup, so maybe you could enlighten me to what made it work for you.

Pic to come.

And is it just that I'm using the race eddition? I don't have a normal one to compare it to at present.

Crappy cell pick, more of specifics on request.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

you should have gotten a clamp mount, not a spigot mount dude, now your going to need a longer hose, or a different intake.

i don't usually say this but clamp-on FTW.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

You can kinda make it fit.. you need to do a little cutting on the swingarm. Just bust out the old dremel and cut the forward section of the cross piece out. I also cut down the spigot piece of the carb a little and that will help as well. You want try and get the carb as close as you can to the motor. I also hacked off the vacuum piece on the one side of the carb and epoxy over that to help make some room. Anyways, lots of work...

or cut a little angle off the intake to make you carb sit a little lower, but then you will have a little kink, but fuck it dude, don't cut the carb, that thing is worth like 100 bux, the intake is probably like 10.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

Thanks guys, I was worried about taking that brace out in the swingarm, but after realising just how beefy it is (and going through 15 cutting wheels getting a chunk out) I think I'm feeling better.

I took it from the corner bends to the first center hole, and did a bit of cleanup around the welds. Still got bumps, don't want to go through the wall, but it fits a bit better.

Went with Lee's advice, chopped a nice piece of the intake out.

Making some more lightweight paper gaskets for the intake, and I might take some sandpaper to work tomorow and grind down the engine side of the intake as well, maybe take a bit off the reed valve case while I'm at it.

With what I've already done it seems like it's going to work, I will have to get a new hose hooked up, going swing by McGuckins (the everything store) tomorow and see what I can find, hose would do, but I'd rather use a bit of piping if I can find a close enough fit.

Worse comes to worse I could also take a bit off the front of the carb, I believe, but as Lee said, it was an expensive hunk of metal...

Thanks again,

lee's anus is leefungchowOG /

o yeah and tilting the carb a little so that its clears anying is fine too.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

Yeah it will fit, I have the same carb and case and it works fine, it is a bit of pain though.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

zack do you have an extra drive chain for a peugeot 103 lvs? i cut links out to make a 40 tooth rear sprocket fit but that slowed my bike down. need a 115 link french, not heavy duty chain. please tell me you can supply one!?

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

Nah, I'm way out of chains, don't even have enough for all the bikes I have.

All the moped shops sell 'em. Some motorcycle shops can do it as well, just bring the old chain in with ya. The 115 is pretty standard with mopeds.

You should sell me that rear sprocket though.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

huckabees is the everything store.

dont grind shit, just get creative.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

You should really save yourself the headache and swap for a regular clamp on dellorto.

And yeah, you should almost never gear out a variated moped unless you have a pretty torquey kit.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

Fuckabees.

The grinding shit would have to happen on this one, it's part of getting creative with it.

If anyone wants to swap a 19mm phbg with clamp for a 19mm bhbg race eddition with hose mount (hose included), I'll do that, but for now I've got it fanagled so that I it should work.

The hose seems nice for making a bend, but without that hose I wouldn't need the bend... it's more work this way for sure, but I've already done all the work, so... yeah.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

I had the same problem, and switched to a clamp mount. It's the best option but I don't totally like the way the clamp works. It's kind of hard to explain but when you tighten it, the pressure is concentrated in one area, instead of all the way around, and because of that I can never get it tight enough. I am putting on some springs to secure it to the intake, because one time it was slipping off which caused a huge air leak and I seized.

I had to grind out some of the swingarm so that the idle screw wouldn't hit it. Not a big deal, just use a dremel and a tungsten carbide bit.

Re: Peugeot 103 polini bottom end install problems

I shaved most of the hose intake off today, now it's all flush and stuff, with a shorter intake manifold, everything moves fine, it looks like it sits high enough that I wont have to do anything special to make the idle screw/that damn oil injector not hit the swingarm.

I'm picking up some new cable material tomorow (damn bike shops and mondays.. and damn local sears for not having bike cable sets in stock, and damn this town for having no other options). So I should be able to start the break in. Once I have that going, I'll be able to see if it really is variating all the way.

Thanks again people.
