Just wondering if you can make a 1978 Garelli super sport XL fast ? Anyone know how to do it and does it take much $ ?
Thanks,
Raz
BTW: Will a 13:13 SHA carb. off of a Vespa Grande mount on it ? Would it be an upgrade worth the $ ?

Garelli can be fast.
They make 70cc kits for them.
The 13.13 is wayy to small if you will be running a kit. The stock carb is already 14.12 SHA which you can just drill bigger. Anything 16mm+ will do for kits.
Along with a kit, bigger carb, nice modded expansion pipe and regearing. Garellis can easily hit mid 40's - 50. Although to get to these speeds you will definitely need good port work.
There has been numerous threads on this subject. Search will provide a good list of information.
Oh yeah, as with all mopeds. Tuning is key to get max performance. Anyone with cash can throw on a kit but it will not reach its full potential without hours upon hours of tuning.
tell that to the 50/50 puch guys :]
Not sure, but I'm trying to do it with almost-zero investment.
Acceleration has improved a little, although top speed hasn't really increased.
It'll be interesting see if the home porting and polishing will help.
I'm not sure what your idea of fast is, but all Garellis have the potential to go 40MPH w/o pipes and oversized piston/cylinder parts.
judes garelli goes 50+, with a polini kit, 21 phbg, and custom exhuast...and he's still tunning the carb, it may break 60....so yes its possible.
also the only thing those vespa carbs are good for are vespas and batavuses.
so what kind of carbs do you use ?

Dellorto PHBGs
Great thing about Italian bikes is the forward-facing carb setup and the great space that it provides.
only on the first thursday
garelli's are so rad. you own my favorite ped my friend.
ssxl ltd.
ugh. super sexy.
don't buy into that magnum hype. anyone that has both knows the super sport's where it's at.
sorry for that off topic rant.
to answer, yes.
garellis can be very fast.
and they're getting faster.
its a good thing derek and aj havent seen this
i call bullshit on judes 50+ gimme a gps
50+ MPH?
what the fuckkk.
Well you have to look out side the box for these parts.
I will have them soon in my hands. Well lets hopes.
Its a Fan and Cover just like on them Minarelliv1's. Its for the kitted 75cc motors or even stock :). Checkit :) I have Up load pic of the transmission parts thats I will post under this post so check that out to. :)
yes it is.....WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT?
o I'll order 10 of them :) stay tune
I could use one
The transmission kits or the fan & cover Steve?
The cylinders from south america only work 1985 and after.
Polini is the best to get for the older ones. Nice thats from south american or somewhere down there.
50mph is easy to do on a VIP.
How have people managed to increase the max rpm of the Garelli NOI engines?
A polini kit.....
50+ mph is easy on a NOI.
Malossi kit, 4 petal intake, , estoril, 21 dellorto, re-gear.
Seen it. Raced it. Looked like it was doing about 55, easy. Took him a bit to catch up with me, but when he did, he was ripping.
I have the same set-up with a leo pipe and stock gearing and I get Mid 40's super quick. Perfect for the city.
Finding the kit and gears is the hard part.
Thank you for that confidence Bryan, I was starting to doubt my super sport.... Now the part search is on!
Take a closer look on my bike, I know I was too fast at the video hehe
Anyway this fan is meant for the reed valve Garelli cylinder, it's worthless to mount it into the piston port Noi cylinder you have, altough it will fit.
