Race Gas?

There is a gas station here in Omaha that sells race gas, I ahve no idea what octane level it is and it costs seven dollars a gallon, but i figure whats one gallon? I was wondering if anybody thought it would be worth it to try in a moped?

Re: Race Gas?

doesn't help any

Re: Race Gas?

only if you have really high compression.

Re: Race Gas?

It does when your compression is 18 to 1

Re: Race Gas?

It should be like 100 or 118 octane.

Re: Race Gas?

i'm going to bed.

Race Gas?

Apple juice

Re: Race Gas?

race sauce

Hey all. I was about to start a thread on this but remembered there already was one... not too much info in here though. I just put racing gas in my TCCD70. I haven't tested the compression, but I'm certain it's pretty damn high. The gas I used was 100 octane. My impression of it is that there was a noticeable difference, though not enough to make it worth OVER 3x the price of reg. gas. The throttle response seemed to be improved, as was my low and top end slightly. I also got the impression that my bike liked it a lot. It puuuuurrrrrrssss. I'm not SURE it helped my top end, as I'm on break in and might just be hitting higher speeds due to the ring seating more.

Anybody else out there have similar results? Anybody tried this stuff? What about octane booster? Any good?

Re: Race Gas?

its much more effective if you huff it, apparently.

I only huff paint thank you.

Re: Race Gas?

come on, be hip, huff ether.

High octane gas only helps with preventing knocking at high compression levels, if anything it will hinder performance on a motor not designed to run it as it burns slower.

Thanks for the explanation. Low end/ top end gains may have been placebo effect but I still think the throttle felt way more responsive. I'll have to check out ether as well. All good info.

Re: Race Gas?

Hey Max, try toluene at 10 to 20%. You can find it at Frazee Paints and other paint stores. It is used as a thinner for laquer paint.

Score! Lol. Thanks Marv. You comin to the rally?

Re: Race Gas?

toluene? crap man, I used that as a solvent in my organic chem lab.

Re: Race Gas?

pshhh your moms a solvent in my organic chem lab.

Re: Race Gas?

race gas = rattlecan remover

Re: Race Gas?

nerdzilla No mo Peds no mo /

i read in a old(78) moped book, not to use high octane....

Re: Race Gas?

nah... dump some 30% or 35% rc car nitromethanol in there at about a quarter mix, ran that shit in one of my go peds for a long time, i got a huge power boost at about half mix... any more and it wouldnt run right.

Re: Race Gas?

... and go BOOM!

Re: Race Gas?

race gas is better because it doesn't have any additives for any thing but making it go faster. no water, no ethanol and nothing to make it more "environmentally" friendly which will give you a slight performance boost but so will mixing a little less oil. might make you go kaboom but it will go a mph faster. octane only helps if you are running a high compression ratio. but they do put less gunk in higher octane gas.

Re: Race Gas?

Yeah a friend of mine used 100 octane when we got his ped running because we only had 100 octane where we were at. Didn't make much of a difference. It didn't gain any acceleration or top speed.

Re: Race Gas?

what ever you do dont use bp gas.

that shit is horrible.

my bro noticed a huge perf. decrease in his civic.

that invigorate shit does nothing for perf.

Re: Race Gas?

Go to the local airport for some non-taxable 100 octane Low Leaded Aviation fuel. Its blue.

Re: Race Gas?

Not to bring a thread back from the dead but if it wasn't mentioned, octane rating is the resistance of fuel to detonation(burn). People have not the slightest clue that using a higher grade of octane doesn't give you power, its the difference between running lean or rich (stoichiometry.) If you've even been behind a car that smells like rotten eggs chances are their exhaust has been clogged by unspent gas due to the wrong octane. Concerning mopeds, its up in the air, literally. Depending on where you live temperature and pressure altitude play a part in how you burn fuel. Anything more than 93 is a waste unless you forced induction or have a high compression 11:1+.

Re: Race Gas?

Well some of the geniusus think after milling there head they are running 16 to 1 compression. they might as well run diesel. I remember reading somwhere some jackass saying he was at 20 to 1. I dont think your e-50 rod could handle that.

speed holes.
