70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

Has anyone had any experience with the speed kit ? I am wondering if it is worth the money and also what the speed/torque increase was. I am a 240 pound guy that just wants to save gas money on the commute to work.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

Speed, Reliability, Affordability- Pick two.

You're at cross purposes, performance costs money, lowers mpg, and reliability. I commute on my finicky, twitchy, kitted Kromag, but its three blocks and the boss doesn't freak out if I'm late. If I had to get to a job further away and be prompt I'd ride my QT50 not fast, not glamorous, but bulletproof.

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

I think your better off piecing your own kit together. I like the 70cc Athena with the Amal 15mm carb and intake for reliability. That kit is probably an Airsal cylinder, has the amal carb but with a Biturbo. I really don't like the Biturbo on a Puch. It seams to lack in just about every area compared to the other pipes available. As far as the Airsal. I here both good and bad about them. I've never tried one so you will have to do a search to see whats up with them.

Thanks for the info Bangers and Xmopedracer.

If there is a reliable way of doing it, that would be great, but I don't have a clue where to find the Athena 70cc kit and other moped parts. I was lucky to find the link that I posted. Please let me know if you have any other information.

I was also wondering how difficult it would be to do such a conversion. I am mechanically inclined, I have never torn apart a moped engine before though. And I figured going to a 70cc kit would give me a little more torque to pull myself around with.

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

Find out what you have to start with is always a good idea. Did your bike come with the 14mm intake and carb. If so, I wouldn't bother buying the 15mm intake and carb. You'll be fine with the ones you have. Then you just need a Head, cylinder and exhaust. That will save you a bunch of money. As far as where to buy parts. I really don't want to start plugging shops on here. Look in the Wiki under Moped links. Shop around. There is also alot of info on pipes and cylinders for Puch in the Wiki. That may help you descide on which parts to buy.

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

kitted bikes can be very reliable if they are set up conservatively. A guy in our crew has a freespirit with that airsal 65 and a 15 bing, tecno estoril. the bike is reliable as hell, doesn't break forty, but it can go 38-39 all day long starting on the first kick. The Technigas Next or tecno estoril along with that kit and a small bing or dellorto would be a bulletproof setup.

i have never worked on an amal carb, so i cant say much.

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

the athena with 17mm amal /dmp pipe rocks hard!

talk to chris at MWH see when he will have one

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

What is MWH? Amal is the brand of the carb, correct? Also, what is DMP? Sorry for all of the dumb questions, just getting started with mopeds.

Thanks.

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

moped whare house

yup amal carb

DMP or estoril

18/45 gears

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

Also, if all my reading is correct, the Athena cylinder kit is 60cc not 70cc, correct? Also, if it helps with anything, my engine is the 2HP one.

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

its the 70cc reed valve athena kit

Re: 70cc kit for Puch Maxi Luxe

I guess the only thing I see on mopedshop.com is the Athena 70cc kit for Peugeot and the Puch 70cc by TCCD, I don't see a 70cc Athena kit. Maybe I will just give them a call in the morning.
