Dellorto Air Velosity

4 stroken at 40 with a 14 12 dellorto , but I'm sure that its jetted correctly. Is this because with such a small carb at that speed the velocity of the air going into my carb is too great

So bigger carb , slower air , better mix . stroking stops

Does that sound correct or not

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

not.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

what bike? what else? small carbs, faster air, will mix better.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

if you're 4 stroking (misfiring) and its NOT a fuel/air mix issue then its an ignition issue. clean and gap your points, at higher engine speeds your coil has less time to build a full charge, dirty and incorrectly gapped points hinder it greatly by leaking voltage. the reason CDI is good is because the coil is either ON or OFF, theres no leaks in the system. you can make your points better, get a better coil, and run a little larger gap to solve ignition misfires.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

40mph on a 12mm carb is probably all that you can expect.

The engine probably cannot suck enough air thru that opening to make it run any faster.

What bike are you running it on? Stock air cleaner?

14/12 on a Tomos now with full kit and airbox mods and can do 48. You need to look at your jetting and also air in and exhaust out. Check your plug chops.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

My targa hits close to 50mph with the stock carb as well (upjetted of course...) Real MPH... just so no one calls double a liar lol

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

pacer with a M1 engine, 14 12 dellorto ,stock air box drilled out, running a 59 jet and I have a great plug chop. Also my points are very clean and are gapped slightly wider than stock spec , plug is too. has a strung spark and all.

should I drill out my extra cardbto 14 14 or get a 15 15?

Do they make a cdi for morini or adapt one?

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

Sorry I mean a 16 16 dellorto is what I was thinking

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

bring the gap down just slightly, if that cures it then see my supercoil thread.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

will try thon at on sunday but i cant finf your thread

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

hey you dudes running the stock carbs . do you ever have a problem fouling plugs at high speed and are your caarbs SHA type?

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

John Joedicke /

No. Plug gets change once a year whether needs it or not.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

never fouled out a plug, even running 16:1 oil mix 2 jets too rich.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

Oh yeah I forgot to say that Im running at 11 to 1 compression ratio. Will that change plug fouling any more or less?

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

not really. higher CR needs a stronger spark to always fire across the gap. its not impossible that you're missfiring due to a weak spark. close the gap a little and see if it clears up some.

its hard for alot of people to tell the difference between air/fuel misfires and ignition misfires since the symptoms are very similar.

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

I pulled the plug and held it to the head and the spark jumps at least a quarter inch or so. But maybe I should change the timing a little more advanced I think .Maybe??? should I turn the stator colckwiise or counter clockwise? What do you think?

Re: Dellorto Air Velosity

it doesnt hurt to try things, it sounds like you have a decent spark. keep tinkering till it runs right!
