Will an extra base gasket kill my low end?

So I installed this 50cc TCCD on my Pinto, paired with a tecno boss exhaust and a 14mm bing carb and intake. The top speed looks like it's right where I want it, but the low end is pretty terrible.

I used two base gaskets on the cylinder to make sure I wouldn't have a problem with the piston hitting the head the way people say TCCD's are prone to do, and I'm wondering if it's throwing off the port timing to the point where it ruins the low end.

I don't really want to mess with the gearing, because before the kit I had a nice range of torque and speed, and my top speed is good where it is now. I really have to get some more low end though, because I can't take off from stop signs without seriously holding up traffic.

I'm still tuning my clutch, so I'm hoping that might help a bit, but still, when the clutch does grab and the RPM's drop, I get zero acceleration.

Thoughts?

Oh, I also have a high-compression head installed, and my top speed is reaching just over 40mph.

Re: Will an extra base gasket kill my low end?

yep, thats whats going on. the tccd's are bad to begin with, extra base gaskets will kill you. when you kit a bike you should use metal tube spacers on two of the studs to push the cylinder down to where it will be with the head tightened down, that way you can tell if you need base gaskets or not.

Re: Will an extra base gasket kill my low end?

Good to know.

So do you assume that there won't be any significant deflection of the crank while it's turning at full speed?

Re: Will an extra base gasket kill my low end?

Your power band may have shifted with the kit and exhaust now too, so gearing may actually be a logical thing to do at this point.

you must realized that the kit is designed to turn rpms, not produce torque.

Re: Will an extra base gasket kill my low end?

Yes, I'm not expecting a lot of torque . . . but I need just a little.

I won't mind if it can't fly up hills or win drag races, but when it takes thirty seconds or so to get up to speed on a flat surface? That's a bit much . . .

yeah, this kit doesnt have very much torque, but it can be made somewhat tolerable. keep tuning the clutch.
