acceleration

so this might be a stupid question, but i just got my ped today, and was a little disappointed by the acceleration. compared to my brother's and my friend's it doesn't keep up well. it has good top speed, but off the line it is very slow.

i was wonder what i could do to improve it's acceleration. i'm not that moped/mechanic savvy yet, so i would prefer simpler things, but am open to all suggestions.

thanks!

p.s. it's a green '75 puch maxi s. i'll post a picture of it soon :)

Re: acceleration

YOu can try shaving the head to give you a bit more torque at lower rpms. Derestricting the exhaust should help a bit too.

Re: acceleration

what gearing are you running? count those teeth!

a smaller front sprock will help you take off better, but you'll lose top end.

Re: acceleration

You should get 12/45 gearing like me. You'll fly off the line, and top out at 18mph!

Actually, it would be better to just mill the head.

Re: acceleration

advance the timing

clean your carb son....if you haven't done so yet.

Re: acceleration

mine was a slow dog ,now its fast,i put a pipe, carb, kit and gears

Re: acceleration

i'm not sure what shaving the head is, but it sounds like it'd be a bit of a job, and i'm not very mechanically inclined. haha.

but i can maybe talk to the shop here in town about it.

thanks

Re: acceleration

yeah i thought about that. what's a good ratio for a fair amount of low end and top speed?

what bikes are you comparing yours to? what bikes do your friends have?

Re: acceleration

yeah, i probably need to. i need to learn how to, actually. ha. you know any good resources for learning how to clean a carb?

Re: acceleration

we all have puchs. mine's a '75 puch maxi s. i'm comparing it to a '78 puch maxi, '79 puch newport (i believe), and '81 puch newport II.

Re: acceleration

lol! that's awesome haha

Re: acceleration

would a 2000RPM Torque Spring help the acceleration ?
