twist or slide throttles for big carbs?

I was told recently that I need a slide throttle for my PHBG because it will let the carb open all the way. Can anyone back up that claim?

Check it out. Look at your carb slide while someone opens the throttle. If it isn't all the way open then you need to fix something.

I don't have it rigged up yet, but I'm with you on that logic. I got the 15 dollar Magura controls set on ebay, which accepts the twist style throttle that i got from Handybikes. I have no doubts that this would work with my PHBG. I just want to know why it is that 1977 offers a Magura throttle assembly specifically for big bore carbs, with a 31mm pull.

you will be fine.

Re: twist or slide throttles for big carbs?

I figured as much... So what's the difference with the 31mm pull?

Re: twist or slide throttles for big carbs?

who knows.... I have universal magura controls from 77 and they werent labeled as 31 mm someshit. All I know is they opened my 20mm phbg and had room. also planning on using them on my mikuni 24.

Re: twist or slide throttles for big carbs?

The only time I have ever had a problem with this was with a stock moby throttle assembly that only pulled 12mm. That was the slide type assembly, not a twist type. Twist types usually have plenty of pull for any carb you gonna run on a moped.

Re: twist or slide throttles for big carbs?

mikuni 24's and up need a little more pull

Re: twist or slide throttles for big carbs?

Yeah, it seems like it would be the other way around. A stock Moby (slide throttle) actually has to be modified to be able to pull a larger carb....
