im looking to upgrade my sprint piece by piece i was going to get a bi turbo then someone told me i shouldint untill i got a bigger main jet? i work on cars so is that like a fuel injector? and what size should i get? any other upgrades you would recomend? maybe a new air filter? or could i drill holes for shorter air intake? thanks for the help

Re: main jet?

i would recommend the search function.

Re: main jet?

Just did and i cant realy find what im looking for what number should i get? should i not get a new one?

Re: main jet?

Did you read the posts when you searched? If you did, you would have found that jetting is not a blanket thing. You can't say if you have xyz then you need this size jet. You can say if you have xyz, start here and then figure out what size you will need from there. I take it that you have never worked on a car with a carb before?

Re: main jet?

▣ß@ηℊℙℐṔ∃▣ ™ /

actually no i work on newer cars and im ASE smart ass why does everyone on this site have to be such an ass? and everyone wonders why nobody rides mopeds anymore its cause when people try to get help you just shit on them.

Re: main jet?

▣ß@ηℊℙℐṔ∃▣ ™ /

oh and thats automotive service excellence if you didnt know or certified

Re: main jet?

i dunno what ASE is, but i dont see how you can be certified in anything involving automotives if you dont have experience with carbureted vehicles.

Re: main jet?

▣ß@ηℊℙℐṔ∃▣ ™ /

considering theres 8 different test you have to take in your field of study such as CARBURATED try looking it up its a good job. so are you just a dick too?

Re: main jet?

Well, dicky McDickerson...I did give you a for real answer before I asked a question. The question was not an insult. Just a question. So, maybe you could quit being a dick...yeah? Rad.

Re: main jet?

▣ß@ηℊℙℐṔ∃▣ ™ /

im not trying to be a dick but every post i read has to have five different jerks in it picking on a kid over a moped. what you said to me was offensive. it was a smartass comment

Re: main jet?

Oh snap. Perhaps you could get over yourself? Not every post has people being jerks. Most of them don't, it's just that a bajillion people a week as THE SAME QUESTION...and then get pissed when that question doesn't get answered right away.

There is a search button for a reason.

Re: main jet?

▣ß@ηℊℙℐṔ∃▣ ™ /

well thanks for the help no need to continue this post i appologize for being dicky mc Dickerson. quick question, after a new exhaust whats a good upgrade

Re: main jet?

Search??????

Re: main jet?

▣ß@ηℊℙℐṔ∃▣ ™ /

well i realize this but still the majority of them do i used the search function and its alot easier to get my exact question answered instead of bits and pieces. and i have no reason to get over myself if im the one thats pissed about people being jerks, i dont understand why its such a big deal about people asking questions i understand the few asking about the stupidest things but most are okay questions and if it upsets people then just dont respond or even aknowledge them. i really do appologize for being such a dick its just frustrating to deal with everyones "newbie" shit over and over. i know you guys know more about mopeds then me thats why im asking questions so can we just put this stupid shit past.

Re: main jet?

▣ß@ηℊℙℐṔ∃▣ ™ /

oh and for the upgrade everyone gives a different response and since you seem to know alot i was asking for your personal opinion

Re: main jet?

yes there are many who makes smart alec remarks....we have all been thru it...i also don't understand why there are many on MA that would rather ridicule you and make those smart alec remarks instead of just helping someone out... but just forget about it and ignore those remarks and be patient. someone will come along and answer your question.

this question had been addressed many times before and in fact just recently someone asked the same question a few weeks ago.... and before posting, the use of the search function should be used, and if you can't find the answer you are looking for, then post your question, just be prepared for whats coming.

to answer your question. to find the right jet is more a trial and error type of thing... you need to purchase a range of jets and purchase at least 5 jets...first off you need to know what your stock jet is... add 4 to stock jet number then purchase the range from that number up...ex. stock main jet 62 purchase jet sizes 66 to 74(66,68,70,72,74) if your upgrading to a high flow filter also, you may want to purchase a few more, but that's a starting point. no point in drilling your airbox, just get a high flow filter

Re: main jet?

Pipe, carb, gearing, kit. In that order.

I love new dudes. I don't love new dudes who think that they are the whip, and get all self righteous.

Everyone has different opinions b/c there is no one set way to do things.

Re: main jet?

so you passed a test on carburetion but you dont know what a main jet is? Shit, sign me up for one of these tests, i want my ASE certification! Hell, i'll take my astronaut's liscense test while im at it.

but as an answer to your question. if you get a biturbo, yes, upjet. But hey, instead of just buying one jet and probably guessing the wrong one, why not buy a fistful of jets and tune it? Buy the jet sizes up a few from stock and start with the highest after you install your pipe. Then work your way down to the right one. And yes, a performance air filter might help. But, once gain, make sure to compensate that extra air with an even higher jet.

Re: main jet?

i dont believe at all that you are a mechanic if you don't know what a carburetor jet is. when i put a performance exhaust on my a35 i was around a 56-58 jet. the next step is making or have someone make you a 15 or 16mm intake manifold. you'll be hauling ass through your neighbors yards or cornfields or down the sidewalks, you'll get to the ice cream store 3 and a half minutes sooner and i mean that in the most seriously offensive, vulgar and appalling way possible. cowabunga dude

Re: main jet?

Dear god people. Would it kill you to just answer the question? If everyone asks this, and they always get told to search, the first 300 results are going to be useless because they'll all say, "You should search." If it bothers you that much, you could just make a word document, write up answers to the 10 most frequently asked questions, end it with "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION," save it as _Going faster for noobs_ (or something more derogatory if that makes you feel more manly) and copy and paste it every time you see this stuff asked.

That being said, I'm not an expert on any of this by any stretch of the imagination. I'll try to answer as best I can, but you should verify it with searches or with what people respond. I trust people will point and laugh and tell you the right answer if I fuck this up, so here goes:

Yes, if you're going to get a Bi-turbo you should get a bigger jet. I think I remember reading somewhere that the jet controls how much fuel leaves your carb (and goes into the engine) but I could be making that up. Either way, it controls the fuel in the system ... somehow. There's a diagram here if that helps you piece anything together (that's assuming you've got the Dellorto). As for jet size, that really depends. You want one that's bigger, but not so much bigger that you four-stroke or lose performance. Find out what size you've got right now, and buy a range of larger sizes. Start big and work your way down until your plug chops look good. A performance air filter would probably enhance your speed as well, but I've heard of people using pantyhose or drilling holes in things too, so I dunno. If you're looking for jets, try treats -- great prices, ships at the speed of light, and you won't get raped on shipping charges (it's a miracle!)

Yeah... read through this too:

Re: main jet?

don't forget about a new high performance exhaust belt!!! often overlooked.

Re: main jet?

Rob

Hey man sorry your catching so much flack for asking a noob question. But heres some tips on searching this forum

Start by searching your model. like Sprint

maybe add Tomos hit all the check boxes and all dates

start your search as broad as possible

then read them all

you'll be soo much smarter at the end of it all, true 85% of the info or replys will have nothing to do with whatever you are trying to figure out, but most of the times you will at least be entertained.

the real fun will begin when you get a multi jet carb soo many possibilities

"and to start you on your way here is some good reading material":http://edj.net/2stroke/jennings/

Re: main jet?

fifty dollars said he'll get two pages into Jennings and give up.

Re: main jet?

HA!

Re: main jet?

At least I didn't recommend Bell..

Re: main jet?

'are they like a fuel injector'

that alone, right there, tells me you know absolutely nothing about cars, engines, combustion process, engine management, carbureation, or probably even chemistry. you aren't ase-certified, except maybe to change tires and replace ball joints, you are a big dumb aggro jerkface and please go away.

Re: main jet?

ok well i sincerely appreciate those who are a help. for those who are complete asses ill try to get a picture of some certification on my profile. i dont get what your problem is and what does my occupation have to do with anything? im also attending ohio state is that gonna be ridiculed too? or that i have two basset hounds ones Grace and the others Emery. oh and i drive a saturn sc2, im 6 foot 2 my girlfriends name is kayla and my bestfriends name is kyle if you want anymore info on my life for you to call me a liar let me know ill be glad to satisfy you people who have nothing else better to do then sit on moped army and talk crap again for those of you that helped thank you

Re: main jet?

Rob,

Jeez...You started this whole thing when you called Bennan a smart ass when he was just asking a question. One of the biggest mistakes people make here are implying emotions to words incorrectly. He was just asking a question and you read that he was being a smart ass, when he was probably just asking.

A lot of people would not understand having automotive experience without having knowledge of a carburated engine, even though, in todays world, that could easily be the case.

Re: main jet?

what does your occupation have to do with anything? Well, nothing. But then why'd you bring it up? You're the one who brought up how you were ASE certified in the first place. If you didnt bring that up nobody would be giving you shit for it.
