Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

So we all know that the springs that come on the aftermarket 3 shoe clutches are crappy. Has anyone tried putting three of the springs from the stock 2 shoe clutches in place of these crappy springs? Does it work? Does it make tuning easier? Anyone have any experience with this?

Yes it works, and it does help. We did my friend's this way and it was a big improvement, but not as good as the orange paz springs.

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Do you remember how far in you guys turned the springs?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Bump city.

Anyone got any extra green, blue or Paz springs? If not I'm gonna try the 2 shoe kind. Tuning recommendations?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

how good are the green springs?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

They came in stock 3-shoe clutches like on the Korado. They work really well.

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

on the 3 shoe clutch note, has anyone figured out how to tune these damn things? i have all three shoe springs screwed at level to the shoe. any suggestions? Example: 1 shoe spring screwed halfway in second out, 3rd in, etc? also jon, hve an extra three of those rings i can tke off yr hands?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Jose, from my understanding turn all 3 the same. I was also told to start from flush then do 360

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

None of the aftermarket 3shoes are pre-threaded.

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

i turned all the screws in all the way then backed them out 1.5 turns each

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

i haven't installed mine yet, but look up the paz spring threads. All those guys say screw em in all the way, down, in, compressed, whatever, then back em out 540 degrees to 720 = 1.5 - 2 turns out. Id start there and see how it goes

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

thnks los and coco. Coco im running a 70cc athena kit with a 16 dellorto. with the setup i hve and based on what you have, will me turning it all the way in then out 1.5 - 2.00 turns be too much? How is yours running?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

i am running a used 3 shoe stock springs

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Waiting on some springs from Paz.

Been a week already, anyone know if he's been busy recently? I'm sure there's an explanation but I live no more than 10 minutes away from ssf and was hoping to get them by tomorrow on my day off.

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Can you guys elaborate on all the way in?

As in past flush? Or does all the way in = flush?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

well there is forplay, then there is intercorse

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

lol sorry...... turn the pad screw all the way in until it stops then back it out 1.5-2 turns

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

thanx coco. would you have paz's info you can pass along to me so that i can order these better springs?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

I'm currently working on getting my clutch tuned . . . getting real pissed about what a pain it is to get it in and out to make adjustments . . .

I've read the suggestion before to turn the screws all the way in and then out 720 degrees, but I still don't understand what people are saying is "all the way in."

On my clutch, the screw is a set screw, so you could theoretically turn the screws all the way in until the springs pop out. That is, once you get to the point where the screw is flush with the inner surface of the shoes, the springs have nothing holding them anymore, so the buckle and pop out. I was using this as my "all the way in" point, but it seems wrong still . . .

Care to clarify?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Is this an aftermarket 3-shoe? If so you can't tighten the springs all the way down on those because those springs are so lightweight that by the time they are fully compressed, they are popping out the bottom of the shoe. If this is the case and you have enough stock 2-shoe springs to replace the 3-shoe springs, you should probably do that. If not you'll have to just try some different tensions out for yourself.

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Yeah, I'm using an aftermarket -- I thought that's what everyone was talking about. The whole two turns out from all the way in only applies with different springs though, ay?

Anybody care to describe how the perfectly tuned clutch performs?

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

Take a look at my profile for my email address.

Yea I am completely out of springs for the time being (I have springs for the people who's orders are pending). I will be ordering more next week.

Re: Puch 3 Shoe Clutch Spring Options

I am actually having a hella time trying to tune in my clutch as well. It seems to me you want your rpms as high as possible before your clutch kicks in. When tuning, the higher I turn in the spring set screws, nothing more is happening. I don't want to go too far. By setting them looser it will be a boggier and slower take off, right?
