motobecane/ sachs/ jawa porting and milling??

I Have three mopeds. A sachs eagle, motobecane mobylette, and a 1991 jawa. I was wondering if anyone knew what moped would be the best canidate for a build up. I have a machinist friend and i plan on milling the head a bit, some intaka and exhaust porting, carb tuning. Any advice??

If yo are using existing stock parts they are all good except that the Sachs jug is harder to deal with. A plus with the Becane is that ready made pipes are available and it has or can have variation

Re: motobecane/ sachs/ jawa porting and milling??

mobies have the most aftermarket bolt on shiz, but they can get spendy fast.

sachs are tough and very good for daily driver duty, but they have a few major design flaws that make them hard to hot rod. if you figure out how to clamp and machine the head, please let us know because i'm going crazy trying to figure that out

jawas are a blank slate, there are no parts for them, but if you go wild and chop it up, nobody will hate on you. go wild, have fun.

Re: motobecane/ sachs/ jawa porting and milling??

Well this is the easiest way I have found to mill heads, Take a piece of round stock steel 6 inches long, thread it about two inches using the same die size as that used on the tap for the spark plug hole. Thread it into the head and lock it down on the inside and outside with a nut so you are squeezing the head between them. Now place the protruding round stock from the top of the head into a lathe chuck and proceed in removing what you dont want from the head. Not hard to do. jerry

yeah, thats a breeze.... i 'mill' heads by putting 220 grit sandpaper on a piece of glass (about a square foot) and using a circular motion, sand the head down. After a couple minutes, about .030" is easily removed. do the same with the top of the cylinder, and then you 'match' the two and no more need for a gasket.

Re: motobecane/ sachs/ jawa porting and milling??

running wifout a head gasket is great as long as you dont plan in heating up the engine much thenu will leak because of expansion and the head studs holding only in four points.

does anyone have a link moby aftertmarket hp parts?? Thanks

Re: motobecane/ sachs/ jawa porting and milling??

easier still- weld the threads from a spark plug onto a rod or block and use that. That's what they had at the machine shop I used to work at.

Re: motobecane/ sachs/ jawa porting and milling??

yeah, thats how i do 'em, my jig has a joint in it too so i can adjust for off-center spark plugs- most of them are.

Re: motobecane/ sachs/ jawa porting and milling??

Found this post... so I'm looking for .030"? How about if I measure the head gasket and then shoot for that thickness +.030", then I can run a head gasket?
