So the boysen reeds wont make me go any faster. I am very curious to what i can do. I would love for my qt to be fast. Which rearend should I go with? What other little adjustments can I do?

Re: qt50 reeds

i have a mostly stock 1980 qt50. when i got it it was totally stock, and had a top speed of about 32 on the flats. I installed a K&N air filter instead of the stock air box, a 75 jet, and installed the boyesen reeds (both really cheap mods) and now I hit about 36 on the flats. It took a bit of experimentation to find the right carb settings, but I did get a bit more power out of the deal.

I will have the k&n(looks cool). The reeds and jets dose seem like a affordable upgrade. Im going to look into it. Ever tought about new rear end? My friend has a different rear end, k&n filter and he gets 35 mph.

Re: qt50 reeds

I've thought about the pw rear end, but have heard that it doesnt have any impact without an expansion exhaust. I dont have the $$ for a Jemco right now, so I'm gonna wait and do both at once.

Re: qt50 reeds

It will have an impact you just wont get the most out of it unless you have a fast motor

Do you all know what site to order the boysen reeds for the qt50. Do you think the yamaha dealer would have them.

Re: qt50 reeds

The best air filter to run on qt50s is a Uni for a 72 honda cb 350. It has a steel end cap and this makes all the difference. Mine will run decent with a uni foam pod and better with a K&N but the best with this cb 350 filter. They come in packs of two from uni and they are about 30 bucks. Second, boyesen reeds are good but it you cut your own reeds out from a 250cc dirt bike (cr 250, and so on) These are much better. V force reeds or carbon techs are the only options. I have reeds, filter, bp4hs plug, spectro 2t oil, 94 octane, 15w40 rotella t engine oil, and pw 50 gear and stock top end with 100 lbs of compression and mine qt does 38 mph. My jetting is spot on with a 67.5 main jet.
