performance lighting? moby 40...

hey kids. so I found that an H7 fits PERFECTLY in the headlight. I don't have the original bulb holder or anything so I'm looking to retrofit.

...

the H7 at 55 watts puts out like 10,000 degrees of heat (along with massive lumens) but she's gonna melt my little luxor 270 in about 15 minutes. 5 mins and she was smelling distinctly unhappy.

so I'm looking for max. wattage before meltdown becomes a risk and / or a bulb that will fit in that socket ...

i'm running 12V.

here's a shot of the front of it - i'll get a shot of the hole in the back later.

i distinctly remember my pug ran something like 6 watts but i was hoping to do a little better than that ;)

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

maybe drill some cleverly placed holes in the case to vent the heat?

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

I was going to say the same thing.

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

Use an indicator light for a car. I use em, they are about 15w or 20w. Good light, no melting.

Car-headlight bulbs are too hot for a plastic moped headlight. Don't use halogen bulbs in a plastic housing ;)

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

ya this thing is like a million degrees. i'll take my pop's IR thermometer to it after dinner.

the light is SO AWESOME THOUGH ...

Ben Van Zoest /

Tell me where are you getting the 55W from?

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

go to the hardware store and get a 12 volt MR-11 halogen there available in 15w 20w 30w 40w. there seales in a holder that is like 2 inch and the put out lots o light. some are flood light n some are spot light so check when u buy one.

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

i dont know if you'll melt it if its vented...

car headlight assemblies are plastic yo.

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

Bernard - 55w is coming from Li-Po three cell R/C airplane battery. Scary power, and it fits in the chin of the fairing. (!)

I may run 12v from Peter's coil if i ever get my 'other' motor built.

Peter - yup car headlights are definitely plastic but high-temp high impact polycarbonate! I used to actually deliver food to the plant in Belleville where they make Asston Martin headlights (alongside the chev impala ones) .

This is 34 year old french luxor plastic tho...

wari - thank you, as ever ;) i'll check them out

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...

ah, I know this Mister 11 bulb you speak of. very much like the GU-10. hot hot hot! maybe not so hot in lower wot.

physical investigation to follow

Re: performance lighting? moby 40...
