19mm PHBG questions

Kinda annoying to the performance vets , I applogise.

I got a 19.5 delorto today with a malossi intake for a puch. Im putting this on a Za50 block , not case matched, and my carb comes with 4 jets. Im running a Proma gp

Obvioius Question - where would ya start and start working down from?

92 79, 82 and 84 is what i have to start with. Kit is not broken in. Id just normally start with the 92, but im betting thats kinda overkill. Suggestions? Ya I know plug chops, im just looking for a suggestion thats not ...well plugshops only. Ideas.

Secondly, carb has odd vacuum looking things on both sides entering above by the slide. Block these off ? Im thinking yeah they are for some oil injection of vac stuff but im afeared of air leaks.

I know where the main jet lives.

I know that big screw is the idle setting, and im making a big jump in thinking that other brass screw is the idle jet itself.

It doestnt have a cable choke, is that big ol black pull nob one? Dosent operate a slide but maybe it works on another princial? Sorry used to bing things.

Thanks for any help.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

The 2 outlets on top are vents for the fuel bowl I wouldn't plug them, depending on what kit you run a 92 might even be too small, I always start at 100 and work my way down, but that really depends on your setup. The brass screw is the Idle mix and usually it is set 1-2 turns from all the way in but I'm not 100% on that one.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

yeah do not cover up those vents. good luck

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

Also 92 to 84 is a big jump in jet sizes and probably in the range your bike is going to need.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

Do not block those off. They are the float bowl vent tubes.

You didn't say which kit but i'll assume it's a polini. Start with a 94, but that might be way too lean. I know some poeple go up to 130 with four petal setups.

The brass screw is the idle fuel mixture screw.

the black knob is the enrichment circuit, or choke. Up is choked, down is regular.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

The kit makes a huge difference...metrakit uses smaller jets...

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

Sorry, im a bad person.

It is in fact for a Metra Kit.

any more ideas? Is that big knob a choke?

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

sorry, enrichment knob = choke , thank you

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

If those holes arent supposed to be blocked off how come some of the phbgs are sold with out those nozzels even there? Just wondering what they do.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

I was under the impression that they allowed air/vapor to escape when more fuel came in letting the fuel bowl stay full.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

sounds right, I heard some one say it was an overflow for when you made a leaning turn for it to spill out, but that doenst sound like it would be benificial

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

On one of the squids moby's the motor shook so bad the fuel sprayed out of those holes how shitty.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

Maybe the float stops working at that much of an angle and it just dumps the excess so the carb will still work, leaning makes sense since there is a tube on either side of the carb.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

Shit I bet I know it dumps it so that it won't go out through the jet (not atomized) and bog the motor.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

The other brass screw isn't the idle jet setting...it's the mixture screw. Very important to get that right. Usually what you want to do is screw that bitch all the way in and then back it out 1 full turn and go from there. If it seems good (i.e. idles well and runs well off the line and at more rpms at 1 turn out....) LEAVE IT. You're done. If not, mess with it by richening it first (turning it out) and then leaning it out.

Also, you're probably cool with the stock idle jet it comes with, but if you're having trouble getting it to idle, you should think about changing it out. Remember, that little guy can save your day - if it's too lean and you come to a stop after a long full out run, you can seize your shit at a stoplight if the cylinder is too hot from running WOT for a long time and then not getting enough fuel at idle. That is what the Dellorto manual says and I believe it.

Everything else you said is correct.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

Old thread...

Anyone know what the size of the idle jet is that comes in the carb from the factory? If one were to buy a couple of different idle jets to play with what would you recommend?

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

my 19mm dellorto came with a 60 idle jet, however, ive been told that the there is no standard main jet and they all come with different ones. i dont know if this is true for the idle jets.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

My 19mm came with a 45 idle jet. I guess it depends on what kit. mine is on an 80 athena and it might of been a tad to big but I leaned it a bit with the air mixture screw (careful not out too far cause it will rattle out and believe me its not easy to get a replacement). I'd like to play with different sizes, but have had hard time getting em from 1977 and have pretty much given up. Where were you able to find em?

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

60 idle what kit you running that on and is it the clamp style or rubber coupler maybe jets differ between em. Mine is 19mm rubber coupler style non-race

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

mine is the rubber coupler style, racing version. are you sure youre not talking about your pilot jet leo? mine came with 45-pilot, 60-idle, and like 80something-main.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

I have the racing version, rubber coupler style on a metra kit. I can just open the thing up when I get home from work today and see, it's weird there isn't a standard.

Re: 19mm PHBG questions

oh I'm positive that long jet that says 60 is your starter jet

45 is tiny and right beside the main jet

and I'm only going by what 1977 has pictured on their site so unless they are wrong

check out their pics of the jets and look at yours
