moby variator

I have a moby 50L 1976 and i want to put a variator on it, should i just get a 50v variator or are there any aftermarkets that would kick ass for it that would also be somewhat gettable?

Re: moby variator

im a purest in the world of mobys so my first reaction would be suggesting to get a 50v motor and swap it out. then go nutz on the old motor so u would have a stock 50v and a killer moped under development.

Re: moby variator

what wari said is best.

the differnce btw the variated mobys and non are, the variator of coarse, the tensions spring bracket and the gearing.

if u swap out the dimoby clutch with a variator, u will also need the proper spring bracket and should but don't have to use the correct gearing of 11x54 your gearing now is probably 11x44

Re: moby variator

My stock L had a 13 tooth front gear (1977)

Re: moby variator

If you change the front sprocket, you will need a subtly different engine engagement lever on the pulley as well.

or weld it (yuck)

Re: moby variator

Re: moby variator

You'll pound it out of a solid raw piece of iron? SWEET!
