custom air filter/veocity stacks?

Anyone tried using an oil breather for an air filter?

Or a bicycle horn chopped up to make a velocity stack?

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

I thought of, and was planning to use on my next project, the oil breather. But the horn velocity stack is pure genius! Thanks for the idea.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

No problem, you guys can thank me later!

I actually didn't want to post it until I did it..but just throwin it out there.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

the oil filters work great, the cheapo one bolts right onto a puch, or my favorite trick is to get a mikuni sized kiddy dirt bike china filter and stick it in the back of the front half of the pinto/magnum air filter.

boom.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

I have been looking for a STEEL horn for a while! Thats funny you thought of the same thing.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

yeah, you should be able to walk in any bicycle shop and get one, ask to see the J&B catalog. There are a few different styles out there with varying sizes so you should be able to get one that will be just right.

P.S. if anyone gets this done before me post pictures and let me know how easy it was. I may try it tomorrow though.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

so forgive my not knowing shit about shit but wouldnt just running an open carb be pretty much the same thing? someone explain the idea behind the VELOCITY STACK to me thanks.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

I've heard that having ram air is a bad idea on two strokes, or is the Velocity thingy supposed to point backwards?

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

running wifout a airfilter or airbox isnt just exposing the engine to the chance of sucking in abrasive dirt also it robs power. airbox and airfilter work similar to a expansion chamber. it captures the reversion wave and the atomized fuel so it can be inhaled on the next intake stroke. the reversion is huge on piston port engines just run it up and look at the fuel fog in front of the carb as you go through the power curve. so you need some restriction and a way to capture the charge and wave.

a velocity stack is same as a funnel to direct and help slightly compact the return wave and charge.if you have a small bore carby you can make one from the same tubing as you make your intake from and form a bell mouth wif a large bearing in a press.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

I've been thinking about an oil filter for a while, I have a sweet chrome one, but how would I mount it? It threads on. I'll have to rapid prototype something. I have a velocity stack for my bing. I rapid prototyped it. I still need to turn the carp so I can put it on though.

Do you have any ideas on the oil filter mounting?

Eric

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

Well poop. Thanks wariesesi, shows how much I know about 2 stroke engines. I wasn't worried about dirt and debris but I am worried about power. I'd still like to try this on a 4 stroke engine.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

velocity stacks are diffusers which have a dual function in tuning. first they increase air velocity into the carb by providing a smooth bell shaped orifice, reduces frictional losses all that jazz.

they also slow down and reflect waves, so you can minimize the pressure fluctuations in your carb.. wari covered it. A proven recipie for power is crazy huge intake port timing, with a velocity stack to pull up your torque. It makes a huge difference on bikes with top-end pipes like bullets in improved torque.

running w/o air filter is totally stupid and askin' for trouble.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

soo the new spray can filter is the home velocity bike horn velocity stack with pantie hose filter? yes?

Facing backwards and tucked away to reduce turbulence?

I'm gonna make this soop er rad!

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

hahah this one would look sweet!

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

oops,

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

Off subject sorry dudes Hippy find me a complete motor running condition i'll beef it up laters i just need a running motor!!!!!! im dieing!!!!!! tanks O i have a wheel set for you bikey bike if ya need one. good tires n everything.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

mark hook a brother up with that wheel set..I got cash in hand, 540 220 100

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

ta da!

here you go hippy

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

Which ones, the mags off my sebring??? im looking for an e50 that RUNS but umm make me an offer buddy

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

Mark, did you get that crank and bearings fr0m "treats HQ"? thats a11 I need in 0rder t0 make y0u a m0t0r, 0r gimmy s0me m0neys and I'11 0rder it

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

na i didnt butttt i gotta work at rivercity tattoo Friday Sat Sun Mon and Tues if you wanna stop by i'll give you moneyzz just let me know how much you need and i'll give you that plus a shinny new cokacola!!

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

ah I assumed they were for a puch, nevermind man

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

yea sorry bout that bro everyone does haha i mean i guess they could work you just gotta flinstone it to start your bike haha

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

True or False Longer stack = higher rpm?

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

That is very interesting. thanks

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

Longer stack = Higher rpm. But, it also comes with a greatly reduced throttle response, bends in the intake pipe will make this problem worse.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

In most engine applications the shortest air intake path produces higher rpms. in theory there should be a 'tuned length' which is actually a volume which fills and empties resonant with the cylinder. this volume is ideally the volume from your port to the end of your intake tract.

long story short, shorter intake and stack= higher rpm powerband.

Re: custom air filter/veocity stacks?

I have used the oil breather thingy before on an express.

I dont know about the idea for the stacks from the horn,............

but i would like to comment that i Really dig that picture.

Would look good in a custom black and white.
