70cc Athena kit Tuning

 GotSpark /

I got a 70cc athena kit from treats.

its the one with the wedge shape reed block.

case matched e50, techno estril, 21mm phbg.

i think its almost all the way broken in.

82 main jet and 45 idle.

talked to some people that had the same kit that said they were running high 70's main jets and still a little rich.

it doesnt seem to be hitting any defined power band.

just slowly works its way up and tops out at about 40mph.

boggs at a stop with WOT. have to ease the gas.

with the air filter i have someone told me i could be running lean.

havent done any clutch tuning, going to do a plug chop right now.

i just think that i should be getting alot more out of this kit. any suggestions?

plug chop shows that it is just a bit rich

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

I'm running a 70 jet with a 9 needle on a 20 and am still a bit rich. problem is the plug chop lookls about the same as when it was way rich. my 50 idle jet seems to small I say keep stepping down till you find the magic number.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

I am running a 92. That is partly due to the fact that I mix at 25:1 (more oil = leaner =more gas needed). I could probably still drop down to maybe a 90, but I am playin it safe. Still a bit of bogging through certain parts of the throttle. I have realized you really have to get this kit jetter perfectly for it to make good power. Kind finicky. Keep playing with it.

My bike is running 16x36 gearing, tops out right around 55, and pull up hills pretty decent.

21 phbg carb

techno boss pipe.

I didnt like my estoril on this kit.

why do you mix so rich?

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

safety. My throttle only knows one position, and its WOT.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

nitrous and more stickers.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

rumor has it the latebirds get free/cheap motul...

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

yes and no. We got sponsored a few times, for rallies. We end up giving a lot of it away. I think I got like two or three bottles total. Doesnt last that long.

hmm ok yeah sounds like i just need to tinker with it.

hey jeremiah what pipe are you using on it?

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

tecno estoril for supwer hill climbing power and decent top end.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

this is what worked for me on a 20mm dellorto are 88main 60idle...why the high idle jet idk... it just works good that way..oh and a bullet exhuast for top end speed the kit has good torque.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

oh and 15/40 gearing. i'd probably change to 16/40. the bike has descent top speed.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

with 18/45 I do 45mph.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

I had 16x36, topped out probably right around 55, give or take a mph. Still climbed hills alright too.

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning

Re: 70cc Athena kit Tuning
