poorman's performance motobecane

hey i just got my motobecane running reliably and got a dellorto15/15 on the way. it's probably going to take me till the end of summer to get the cash to get all the nice parts i wanted. but in the mean time, is there anything i can do to tune her faster with anything i got?

Port top end, remove a ball from the variaitor, put thinner and lighter tires on it. lose weight.

Re: poorman's performance motobecane

take off anything thats not necessary to hold the bike together.

"Start Reading":http://edj.net/2stroke/jennings/

New chain 415H (sounds dumb, but you'd be amazed)

Replace/repack wheel bearings (again, sounds dumb, but you'd be amazed)

Grease variator/clutch and driven pulley

Verify timing

Inspect, clean, tune brakes (don't want em dragging)

I second the skinny tires and losing weight, you don't need no stinking sde covers or any of the chrome rack stuff, strip it all off.

Re: poorman's performance motobecane

tune up, lube, brakes, tires goodly inflated, a moby diet are all good ways for almost free power. weight makes the best gains after good tune up and serviceing.

porting will make good gains but READ UP ON IT FIRST dont just ask what everyone else did exactly and copy it because that is not a guarantee it will work excellent just that it will work better a bit.

semi-casterating your variator works well also.

Re: poorman's performance motobecane

Find a cylinder rated in the 30s, then port that.

Danzo, Congrats on the Motobecane! You got my email?

Re: poorman's performance motobecane

yes! totally forgot i had an email. it's not quite running yet. but it's real clean. just checking things and taking them apart for now. i don't own a garage.i work until three this sunday but i will give you a call for sure. Deuce Strokers sounds great.

Re: poorman's performance motobecane

On my puch engine I shaved the head (using the sandpaper and glass method), ported the cylinder, chopped the piston, and bored out the carb and intake...

Re: poorman's performance motobecane

Porting, 2" tires, big ass carb, the pipes are pretty nice for stock.

Re: poorman's performance motobecane

big ass carb = 15mm Dellorto, what you already have.

Going much higher then that is pointless on a stock cylinder. bigger does not always mean better.

If you can find the Malossi 62cc kit for the AV7, your golden.
