what does the size number actually refer to on a Dellorto SHA jet?

Interesting question.
The only thing for sure is that the bigger the number, the bigger the hole in the jet.
mms
a 100 jet has a 1mm dia hole in it
ive always wondered that. well then what about bing? Is it the same system? ive heard it is not.
"a 100 jet has a 1mm dia hole in it"
That would make sense as Dellorto are metric. It could make drilling out jets with metric bits close to shop-bought jets.
The various carb manufacturers can set up any system they want.
Some old Amal carbs had the jets measured in oz of gas in x numbers of minutes with a standing head. Say for instance if you had a standing head of fluid at 1 ft above the jet and then when you let the fluid through and you got 35 oz in 5 minutes then they could call it a size 35.
I like the actual measurement system better.
