sounds like a lean bogg. air leak most likely. does it idol? if so spray around the base gasket area, and if it cuts off or does something irratic than you've gotta air leak buddy

try multiple ones(2 or 3), cut them from gasket paper you get from napa, if you have a weird case than that may fix it, is it case matched? because looking at lee's when he matched his he got an air leak because his transfers were so close to the edge of the case. he added material on the sides to make more area to seal with

what do you mean the kits fault? i matched the case and added material on the sides. it might be blowing out somewhere else. gonna check it today.

eliminate all leak possibilities. hows your plug look? are you running rich? did you adjust timing?

Holly shit who told you to use jets that big?! Im always amazed how people are running close to 100s on their peds, my guess is that THOSE people have air leaks and are compensating for them with a larger jet. Example: 65cc airsal + biturbo on a Tomos should run 58-60 jet. 70cc pollini + pollini pipe on Vespa should run about 58-60 jet. How the hell do you jump from 60 to 80+ with just 10cc is anyones guess but this is what my ped sounded like when the jet was waaaay too big. We downjetted and its great. Id say drop to 65 and try it.

quickface, sorry but I think you're way wrong in saying that he needs a 65 on a metrakit. My polini only has a 16(no air leaks) and runs with a 78, I'm positive that he needs way bigger than that expesialy because he has a bigger carb and kit

quick, you cant just generalize jetting, it doenst matter what a certain tomos or vespa motor wants.

if a bike has no leaks and needs a huge jet, then thats what its going to get

What happens when you partially cover the air filter/intake with your hand?

Try restricting the air into the carb.

hey man sounds like ur main circuit in the carb is not engaging and only the idle circuit is, does that carb come with a small brass disk that is held in by the main jet?? (between the main and the diffuser) many of the dellortos do, take it off if, and throw it in the trash, then try again, and see if it still is having the problem.

yo quickref, that info is just wrong, i got a 132 main on a shreding polini, and no air leaks. some motors need it.

brandon is right tho many metras out here r running in the 80's.

Yea I mentioned the "disk" in his first post. Worked for my metra.

if you turn the choke on or if you restrict your air filter and the bike dose not improve it's too rich. Keep going down jets and needle clips till you find something that work.

My bike would barley accelerate and would bog at anything over 1/2 throttle. With the choke on it ran great till 1/2 throttle after that it just bogged.

After removing the disk and upjetting the bike ran much better. I have a 92 in right now and am running rich all across the jetting range. I have a exhaust leak and did not want to jeopardize my motor by the leak getting worse and leaning my bike out.

Metra's and Gili's do not need big jets. Sacramento has a metra with a 78 jet there is someone in sf with a 74 in his gili.

i am running my slightly ported/mostly just cleaned up and straightened out metra 65 with a 69jet and last week was about to go to a 68 before the LA rally because i am still 4-stroking at high rpm. dark plugs, great response throughout 200miles of HARD riding in la with a 73(but that was also too boggy, but with hills and weather and 100's of miles to ride it was ok) plus the way i blast around town.

that is one of the things with the metra.

tune,

look at your plugs, RIDE IT and see, you will know if its lean or rich when it bogs when you ride it. work up to full throttle... all sorts of things....

Update on what i tried with no sucess. thanks for all the advice

1) Took off the washer under the main jet

2) carb cleaner checked leaks: cylinder to case, cylinder to head, cylinder to manifold, manifold to carb, exhaust to cylinder...no leaks

3) half covered carb with hand while throttling...start to die out

Im at the end of the line..will try to jet down up to 72..then i quit..i'll have to do a complete tear down and retry..please help!!!

maybe ur carb is clogger or somthing it really sounds like the main curcuit is not engaging, did ur needle fall into the diffuser or somthing??

So crazy the differences in jetting. Jeff from Choke is running a 134 I think with a mikuni flatslide. Nuts. Also, mixes at 25:1, which means more gas, but still. Thats a difference of 58 jet sizes compared to Brandon.

well its more oil. More oil means you run lean on gas, then you add more gas by jetting larger to make up for the oil running it lean.

i'll check the carb for any clogs. but its a brand new carb. will try both extremes on jetting today: 72, 80 and about 98. could it be my ports on the case. i match ported it to the size of the cylinder. too big maybe?

stupid q, but is your piston in correctly? arrow to the exhaust port? i have the identical set up, running a 92 main and a 50 idle and it rips. just a thought
