45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some speed?

right? i mean.. that is how it works, right?

i still climb hills pretty strong, not accelerating up them as much like before, but since this city has no stretches, i havent had a chance to really run it out.

it feels almost identical to before.. but.. given distance, right? higher top speed MUST happen, laws of physics and stuff,

= RPM new gearing less torque more speed.......

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

yes. david want a cookie?

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

dude

january 12 i had no working moped.

one month ago i got this

since then i:

removed speedo and other crap

changed out the shocks

put on the double seat

dropped the bars

cleaned up and put on a metra 65

put on a dellorto

tried and tested at least 20 jets(now i am at 69) and 3 needle settings, and idle circuit, and going to do idle jet and needle size tomorrow or in la....

changed high tension coil

played with timing(maybe still need to)

put on license plate(lol)

changed front gazelle to spoke rim after repacking it

took the cylinder all apart again to put one last extra base gasket so that it fully cleared the exhaust port.

changed rear to 36 tooth spoked rim after repacking it and taking apart/fucking with 3 or 4 wheel sets trying to get one solid one.

not to mention hours lost to my horn shorting and killing me(two days) and my rear wheel rubbing like a mofo

so yes.

i would like a damn cookie and i want to make sure the 4 hours i spent today were worth something, and making sure that i am not going to go slower now or something in some crazy bizzaro universe because that is what my paranoid brain is thinking now after all this....

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

yes, i do have the sport seat

j, it was fun and i like cookies, no need to simmer down

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Taller gearing ≠ more speed

Taller gearing ≈ more speed

To explain: You can't raise the gearing ratio to infinity. At some time you will have your gearing too high, and your ped won't be able to pull through, resulting in less top speed.

Could be that you've raised it too much, and now you go slower or the same speed.

I've had it myself a couple of times. I lowered the gearing and gained a couple of MPH on top speed and some more low-end because the bike couldn't pull through on the old gearing.

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Roald Is saying your motor may not have enough torque to overcome your new sprockets.

Is that the E50 or the ZA50? What size front sprocket are you using? Do you have hills where you live, or heavy traffic? Starting and stoping alot? These things you have to take into consideration, when setting up your ped.

As to your question, yes, you should have more speed on the top end, with just droping some teeth on your rear sprocket. Brent

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

ya baby ya, especially with that boss or 4p or whatever... topend pipe

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

it was a torque monster za50, i live in sf, i blast hills always or i wouldnt be allowed to be a creature. i know about traffic, i know about riding, this is to blast in la for the rally.

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Chow you picked up speed don't worry. I started out with 18-40 went to 18-36 then to 20-36 now I'm at 20-32 and the thing still revs out and pulls strong through 1sp gear. The gearing dose not seem to effect 1st gear as much for what ever reason. You saw the vid. Heck with my shift point where it is now I can't get to 2nd gear most of the time between stop signs.

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Your horn killed you? For two days? Then you came back to life? Did you eat any brains yet?

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

anyone here keep two rear wheels with different size sprockets for different types of riding? I was thinkin about doing it...ideas?

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Just change front sprockets, much faster than changing out rear wheels.

I run 20-32 but with the same chain link count I can toss a 18 on the front in 5 minuites.

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

makes sense.

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

20-32 is crazy I dont care who ya are. CRAZY!!!!!

Re: 45 rear to 36, i must have picked up some spee

Yea heres 1st gear on the ZA50, If you want to see what it dose when it drops into 2nd you will need to be in LA this weekend. That is if I can get it tuned right, I played around with some things and well it's not running as well, but mark my words no sex or drugs till it dose.
