More av10 shit

Alright so I got everything together and nothing hits anything else (including the piston hitting the head) and I still got shit for power.

It acts like I have my hand covering the intake real boggy real rich, but I am only runnning a 66 jet so I think thats not too off. It acts the same with or without the air filter so I don't think thats the problem either.

I am going to check the compression and was wondering ballpark what whas good for a moped and any other sugestions would be great, It's getting awful close Flockyeah abd I still don't have my bike running.

I noticed that it doesn't really seem to be pulling air through the carb when it is running but I can hear it sucking when I turn it by hand. I am worried that the kit is done, the crank was beat to shit and so were the bearings but I am trying to be optimistic, the cylinder walls look clean and the piston has been sanded a little but not extensively.

I checked the plug and it is real wet with a nice black but not fouled electrode and the insulator is still white.

When I mean no power I mean it idles alright but goes about 1-2 mph at all throttle positions and won't rev at all.

Also I tried to check the compression but my tester is garbage so I don't know how reliable it is and was getting about 70psi (eh)

70psi is pretty much non-running. A good version of that kit would be getting 175 psi. However, your compression tester might be at the end of its rope.

Yea it doesn't thread in it just has a rubber fitting and you have get it to spin at start speeds to get any reading.

Sac doesn't really have any hills but i might be able to find a long shallow incline somewhere.

Has anyone ever tried to put rope or something on the flywheel to turn over a moby I might try that when I get back to the squid garage.

Since you say it doesn't rev at all, is the throttle working properly? Could there be a kink somewhere and the throttle plate is just sitting there? Did the knarp come disconnected at the throttle plate? Cable disconnected at the handlebar?

Based on your symptoms I don't think the throttle is opening at all.

Nope It opens all the way and it runs differently when you give it throttle just doesn't rev unless the wheel is off the ground oh I forgot to add that part.

Eh the fact that it revs on the stand really points to bad compression (well I think it does)

yeah r u running a av10 cdi, or av7 points, also what crank the av10 one? with the normal thread bolt on the av7 magneto etc.

the only other time i saw somthing like this was wen we had a clogged baffle in an old ninga pipe.

also yeah bad compression could do this as well, but bad compression also make a bike really hard to start, is that the case?

yea i just assembled my dopper 50 setup with a 21 carb and 4 pedal and ran it around the block with a 92 jet. looks light tan.

66 jet= way too small, i was running 63 jets on my stock cylinder with an uni filter, and 68 with just a ninga pipe.

62(?) is what i was running on a 15.15 dellorto on an otherwise stock moby.

upjet at least 20 and go from there, that bidalot kit moves some serious CFM.

Shit 76 jet not 66, 66 is pre- av10 I am heading back to the garage right now so I will check the timing as well as everything else.

Or are you just talking about the magnito, crank and variator?

Is your exhaust clogged? That sounds a lot like what happened to my malossi kit when my stock exhaust was clogged.

Well obviously an av10 case. Checked the timing, about 1.5 btdc gapped to .021, exhaust is brand new ran it for about a month.

When it is on the stand it dogs for a second then it revs like crazy. But when it's on the ground it is a complete dog and bill bog down and stall if I hit the throttle too fast.

I took the plug out after and looks a little light but still in the dark tan range. Also there is an awful lot of unburned fuel coming out the pipe.

Internals are quiet as far as I can tell except the variator makes a little humming type noise which it made before. Tried to get a better compression reading but I need a different tester.

Well I am giving up for the night any Ideas would be great for the morning.

try a brand new plug, and i'd keep upjetting.

i wonder if your reeds are snapping properly..

how easy does it start?

yeah how it starts can often explain alot.

also spray the carb cleaner around and check 4 leaks it sounds like u may have a few.

often you will need to use some rtv sealant in the reed block setups to solve leak issues.

switch your timing to 2 btdc, not 1.5. It might help

I started checking for leaks last night but didn't finish. Other than being real hard to push start without a decomp is starts good. Once I get it to turn over it starts right up and idles like a champ. When I put it together I did notice it looked like there was thick sticky stuff looks like old black rtv on the reedblock but only on the triangle sides where the reeds don't touch so I didn't think much of it.. The reeds also appeared to sit flush with the metal and they were flexible and snapped back when you lightly pull on the bottom.

The head uses an o-ring instead of a gasket to seal so I might try replacing that as well with a gasket, but there doesn't appear to be any fuel seeping out between the cylinder and head so it might be alright.

those o rings are usually solid, check the compression vs a running moby or puch or something by spinning them both by hand on the magneto with the plugs in all the way.

make sure ur bike has about the same "resistance" as the bike ur comparing against, its a good trick for not having a compression tester.

on my av7 i was having a similar problem couldnt get above 8mph or so. it turned out there was a tiny crack in the case and i was loosing just enough compression. if you can keep it idleling, then use soap and water and see if theres any leaks on the case itself.

1.5mm BTDC is the stock timing on a AV10 as far as I know.

av10's usually dont have timing, the CDI ones are fixed.

there are av10's with points though.

im suggesting changing the timing based on the way the bidalot kit is most likely ported (somewhat similar to doppler 50 probably)
