Is this 4-stroking?

When I go slow (5-15mph) and give light to medium throttle, my ped 4 strokes (or atleast sounds like it) . But its fine at full throttle. From what I read normal 4 stroking is at WOT. So I don't know if this is considered truely 4 stroking or not. Basically what I want to know is: does this mean I need to down jet?? Low end is feeling weak too, and it stalls at idle sometimes.

If the needle is adjusted super rich then it might four stroke in the mid range, though I have never heard of this. Sounds like you have other problems. What does the plug look like when you do a plug chop?

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

What type of bike, brand and model of the carburetor? You might be able to fix it by adjusting the needle jet.

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

Its a Kinetic with stock dellorto 12.10 carb. simonini circuit pipe, 50 jet (up from 45), opened up air box. there is no needle to adjust fuel/air ratio - just the jet. my plug looks good nice brown, its old but it doesn't look like its about to foul. Dont have any plugs right now to chop with. Thanks

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

Might just be a irregular exhaust note....

Mine make a cool throbbing noise at part throttle cruising some times.

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

would an exhuast leak make it tend to stall when idling? even does it at high idle speed.

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

50 jet seems small with a pipe and opened up air box. the 45 they come with is good for India, hot climate/high elevation, but lean for the US, cosmotor would usually upjet the stock bikes to a 48 before shipping. i was running mid to high 50s stock with a polini long country, high flow air box, shaved head, and lightly ported jug, so you may want to try a bigger jet just for kicks...

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

maciek, thanks for your help. You've pretty much given me a helpfull response on every kinetic post, and ive put your advice to good use. I may try a bigger jet. But It seemed real rich before I opened up the airbox. Actually before that it ran good with an air leak between the carb and case. So my shits all fucked up. Any way, still trying to figure it out. ???

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

A lightly loaded two stroke will stumble. That is, it will not run clean. If it runs OK at top speed just run it and don't worry about it at those very low speeds.

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

Mine did this too. I never checked into it to see what it was though. Ran great above 20mph.

You could try simple stuff like a different spark plug gap.

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

silver has a good point, with the lack of a separate mid throttle mix adjustment in these carbs pretty much all you can do is jet for WOT, and set the idle, which could leave you running a bit rich at less throttle, It's never given me trouble though cause I usually give it full throttle untill i'm up to speed.

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

out of curiosity, what year is that kinetic, is it a tfr or tfr-usa, and how's that simonini circuit fit? Any kickstand/pedal complications? Pics please :)

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

Its a 95 so its not a USA model. The Simonini circuit pipe has no major complications. The one problem is that it is too small to fit all the way over the exhuast outlet, so I am still trying to figure out how eliminate some leakage I'm experiencing there. Other-wise it bolted right on and made a big differrence powerwise, especially mid-high rpm range. The pic is the best one I have here at work, its not very clear and there is a girl on the bike blocking some of it but you'll get the idea. I'm trying to get a variator on this thing but can't locate the parts I need. Let me know if you have any suggestions on that front. Peace.

Re: Is this 4-stroking?

Thats a nice looking lady and the girl looks good too. Put a 13.13 delorto on that thing and call it a day. Great gains for lil cheese$$ and that pipe would love it. Mine does that also at low speeds with a polini pipe
