motobecane high comp head @1977

these are just stock AV7 heads cleaned up and shaved down? thats what it looks like to me. curious..

i need a real head for a 70cc setup, anyone have any input on this?

I think malossi and parma are the only ones that make 70cc air cooled heads, and the parma one I know for a fact does not have a decompressor valve.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

for that price (50 bucks, right?) i'd just send of my stock one to Graham and have him do it for me, custom like. Or break out the cinder block.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

i want the malossi, always have.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

peter, best i can say is it's the higher compression version of a stock motobecane head.

i have a low compression head from a 20mph motor, it has a different shaped cavity (side bulges missing) and no groove milled out around it.

im guessing the lower volume cavity and ring make for a better sealing, lower volume chamber...

but this definitely looks to be a 'stock' part. exactly the same as the head from my 'fast cylinder' motor.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

those are stock av10 heads with larger cooling fins and higher compression, they will work significantly better than an stock av7 head especially on an av10 70cc setup.

look at an av7 head and the one in the pic u will notice they are not just milled down av7 stock heads, they are also wider and the correct profile for av10's.

yes the malossi one would be best, or u could just drill and tap a decomp into a high comp head, most of them have the metal cast in the area for a decomp just no hole with decomp screwed into it

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

yea, i'm basing my assumption on me holding up a stock AV7 head and comparing the physical dimensions the best i could, which is why i think they are AV7. I guess i just remember AV10 heads looking different.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

mike, you have one?

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

holy smokes, maybe i do. it's all bolted up at the moment though!

crap. i can get a pic of my stock av7 head, if that's of any value, let me know.

1977 is sold out of those heads anyway...

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

av7's are rounded on the sides not straight, also i checked these out in person at 1977, and i also have an authentic stock av10 head they are basically knockoffs of stock av10 heads, almost identical.

they will work better 4 sure.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

damn, too bad there's none left. i'm starting to need one. maybe two.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

mike does ur head av7 match the profile of ur av7 cylinder, if not u have an av10 head, but i think there were in fact av7 high comp heads produced by motobecane predating the av10 profile design. so u might have one of those.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

ok i seem to have a weird hybrid of sorts - my high comp head has the groove and cavity of the above pictured, but has rounded sides like the low comp av7. cool!

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

yup elliot you got it :)

hey i'm trying to buy that malossi off ben but he hasn't responded yet!

peter did you scoop up a parmakit? i'm so pissed i missed those

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

nah, i dont deal with motobecanes unless they have an AV10 (or better)

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

i'm too bonkers about my hobbit

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

i can appreciate your selectiveness.

i can't afford to emulate it, but, sheeit, can i appreciate it.

shoot me an email when you got a sec and let me know how to time the CDI?

i'm bulb shopping already ;)

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

email(s) sent mike :)

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

thanks peter

🇮🇹💦 Of the Loin /

i really want the parma 70cc head.

too bad the kickstarters on these things are unreliable at best once you hit 70cc's

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

So I'm wondering if these are a must for the AV7 70cc Parma Kits? Guess we'll find out.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

🇮🇹💦 Of the Loin /

they arent a must.

but av10 heads are better than av7

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

Mr. Richard Dickrich /

I picked up one of these. Does increasing compression typically require re-jetting? If so, up or down. I appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

not really.

on a stock bike youll be fine, just have more power.

on a kitted bike you may or may not want to change your spark plug and/or the octane of the fuel you are using.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

Mr. Richard Dickrich /

Thanks Maitland. I've got the 62 Malossi. Can you expound on the plug & octane comments? I already use premium gas and NGK B6's.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

🇮🇹💦 Of the Loin /

If you already use premium dont worry.

Also even on stock mobys (or with port work on them) I like to run a b7hs. the bike seems to like it better.

but i mentioned both of those because if you increase compression, you increase the chance for knocking (on lower octane gas) and also your engine runs hotter with the increased compression. Usually not hot enough to warrant a plug change though.

also make sure that the piston doesnt hit the high comp head before you run it.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

Mr. Richard Dickrich /

I will check that. Thanks much.

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

ok - can i use my high comp head on the malossi? or do i need to clean up my low comp?

Re: motobecane high comp head @1977

HA I think that photo is of the head I got, it has the same nick in the combustion chamber and casting numbers..
