vespa performance

what is everyone running on their vespas? kits and pipes... I know most people are running the 13.13, and what else? how is your setup running?

Re: vespa performance

i have a 13.13 dellorto, 70cc malossi kit, malossi variator, racing crank, new bearings, and a simonini proline bravo pipe. i have big plans for this bravo cosmetically. unfortunately it is still in the process of being built, but it should be up and running for the LA rally (but not complete unless i get lucky) and i'll let you know how it performs by then.

brag brag brag :)

Re: vespa performance

what are you thinking about doing with yours?

Re: vespa performance

is the 70cc kit a 43mm bore?

Re: vespa performance

I have a si... I'm getting grande forks, but I'm putting new bearings and seals, and I have a malossi 46.5 kit...i don't know the actual displacement. what is the stroke?, 13.13, and a simonini calibrata for it...

Re: vespa performance

46.5 is an "80cc" kit

that is waaaay too much kit and pipe for that carb..

keep an eye on http://ciaociaociao.wordpress.com for my vespa build

Re: vespa performance

Dean, My malossi kit is 46mm, Like my 43mm polini, it came with instructions on how to cut the stock crank and port to prolong and increase intake duration, as well as bore the intake to 13mm, so the 13.13 should be able to support this kit.

Re: vespa performance

Make that 46.5mm and 73ccs, and I would definitely _not_ try to run it without the extensive case and crank work.

Re: vespa performance

yeah, i know i have to do the case and crank work to it, especially while running a 13.13... what kind of performance do you get from your malossi vs the polini 43?

Re: vespa performance

the 1313 will rip if you do the crank and case work, i'm sorry i was all negative nancey in the other comment. my bravo was doing 40mph with the stock cylinder with some mild porting and case matching, and a milled head. proma circuit pipe and 1313. with a kit and the proper mods, yours should haul!

Re: vespa performance

yeah, im going to have some help from the other sHs peeps that are running grandes with 70cc malossi/13.13s... im jealous of your pinasco, though... i dont want to know how much you paid for it. i paid so little for this whole project its sad. so if i can tune it to the point where it runs well... ill be absolutely ecstatic.

Re: vespa performance

macelius, how do those kits compare side by side?

Re: vespa performance

i actually have payed a lot less for all the stuff for my ciao so far than i should have.. but i just got hooked up with so much. i still payed a crap ton, though..

also, did you get the 80cc (46.5mm) malossi or the 70cc (43mm) kit? they round up the cc to the next tenth for some reason.

Re: vespa performance

Sorry can't give comparison yet, I'm just about done working the malossi jug and piston over and ready to move on to the case. I did not port to the polini because of the totally different transfer port shape, also why I got the malossi, so the comparison will be hard with both the cc and the porting variables changed..

Re: vespa performance

Just looking at them side by side, apart from the obvious larger bore, the polini has D shaped transfer ports and thre smaller boost ports open top to bottom, while the malossi has triangle shaped transfers like stock just larger and two larger boost ports with some cylinder wall for the rings to stop on at the bottom of the stroke.

Malossi also has sunken piston ring pins that the ring covers all the way, and earless wrist pin circlips, and seemingly some extra meat inside the port channels to ramp them and make them smaller keeping the mixture velocity up.

Re: vespa performance

i got 70cc's a 16mm carb, and some simonini up under the bottom, and some magical variator on my ciao...thats all i'm giving away.

Re: vespa performance

haha, i was waiting for you cory... im trying to find the post about how you ran the bigger carb, but i cant seem to find it. and terry, its the 46.5, "80cc" kit... i actually was looking for the 43 malossi, but i just ended up getting what was available, and relatively cheaply.

Re: vespa performance

hehe, several options. i actually have a simonini case half...i always did, but i used a conduit pipe to try and find an option for people who don't have deep pockets. biggest carb i'd suggest with this method is the 14 dellorto. maaaaaybe the 15. have the pipe bent into a u, so it comes out the side, you'll need a hole in the frame either way you go, but a shorter u on the left side and longer on the right....i guess it should better be described as making a J shapped intake.

if you make it the right length, and the intake is close enough to the frame, it can clear the pedals completely. i ran a connection to my case half to make the carb face forward, so that i could keep my pedals also...you guys know my photography skills suck, so when i get a new camera(need to stop buying performance parts for my peds and car) i will detail all my progress

Re: vespa performance

yes

Re: vespa performance

Here is the list of parts i have for my si the bike hopefully will be done by february. As soon as i get everything powdercoated and all the vinyl done and everything and the engine completely ported tuned and put together.

- 70cc malossi kit with high compression head

- malossi high performance varriator

- simonini circuit pipe

- 19mm delorto race carb

-complete simonini case with simonini cdi

- custom built frame brace for handling those high speeds

- simonini race crank

- sava race tires

and i am in the process of making a custom intake for the carb so that i can keep my pedals.

God i want this thing done its gunna be sweet.

Re: vespa performance

yeah joey! i heard about this bike! you saying it might be at flock yeah?

Re: vespa performance

no sadly i cant make it because of all the money im dumping into the bike i wont be able to afford to get out there. :( but it will be at all the major summer rallys and we are cooking up an elkhart rally just dont have a date yet waiting to get all our branch members bikes going and it will be at that.

Re: vespa performance

when you say all the major summer rallies, you mean seattle too, right? that's like one of the mojorest!

Re: vespa performance

Yeah im hoping to make it to Seattle its on my list i mean if i dont have the money ill just use student loans to get out there haha.
