Puch Exhaust modifications

Hey everyone. I just bought a 65cc metrakit for my Puch from treatshq. I'm so stoked!! I've been waiting for one to get in stock when I have money!! But, I have read that you need to get a performance pipe. I want one that has really good low/mid power, and not so much at the high range. I mean, I want to go fast and all that, but i really like to have good low end. What do you recommend? Now your wondering why the title says "modifications". Well, have any of you modified the stock pipe to allow me to use a good amount of the kits power until I can sell another limb/internal organ to buy a pipe. And if there is a way to modify a stock exhaust, would it affect breaking in my kit? Smitty, you might be able to answer that. I just have this gut felling that it is reccomened to break your kit in with a good pipe, not a "homemade" one.

Thanks

TaylorN.

Re: Puch Exhaust modifications

go to the top, where it says "resources" and click on "articles". there will be an article on how to derestrict your stock puch exhaust. this should be adequate until you get a legitimate performance pipe. and it's a fun and easy mod to learn

Re: Puch Exhaust modifications

Yeah that was already done by the time I got it. Another thing that I did was used a spring and washer that pushed the nut out a little allowing a little more flow from the little tube at the end. But I was wondering if there was something someone did like cut the baffle apart and used only a part of it or made the holes in the baffle bigger.

Re: Puch Exhaust modifications

To tide me over before my new exhaust came when i bought the same kit you have on the same bike you have, i took the exhaust all apart and went not quite double the size of every hole i could find.

made a big difference from stock exhaust.

I also drilled 2 holes in the back of the pipe if you are looking in from the back.

It was Pretty loud and sounded like a true hog, but still no where near as nice as true performance exhaust.

I am using the black Tecno=RAD exhaust from treatshq with my kit and it has been really nice and was a REALLY good price.

Sounds good and has pretty even power through out. really helped my top speed and helped a little with my acceleration.

hope this helps!

Re: Puch Exhaust modifications

how is that tecno boss? Does it have good low to mid range? Thanks mainly what I'm looking for, but of course like to go fast.

The pipe you want is an estoril or a proma circuit, but what you want is the estoril. Trust me.

Re: Puch Exhaust modifications

you mean this: http://www.mopedshop.com/puch-Moped-estoril-Exhaust-p/818.htm ? Thats a little more than I want to spend, I was looking more at either the proma country for a cheapie or the tecno boss. I'll look around at what other people say about the different pipes, but i must admit, i do like the look of the estoril. lol

Re: Puch Exhaust modifications

The Tecno is more of a mid to high range pipe. Get the Estroil if you're going for low end.

Re: Puch Exhaust modifications

I think I will go with the estoril when I get cash. But i've read that you have to modify the pedals for it to clear. What needs to be done?

Not much, you might need to bend the exhaust side pedal out a tiny bit and just be careful when pedaling and watch your heal. Some people put on a roller instead of a pedal, but on several maxi's we've had no trouble. I had to do nothing for mine. Treats has the estoril, email and ask, they are like 105 and shipping. Get jets too.

The boss is cheap, but is cheaper in construction. Also not a good low end pipe. Estoril is solid, but the packing in the stinger sucks. One of ours has done nearly 2000 miles and still looks good. The paint looks like crap on the header and it leaks a little on the stinger, but no biggie. Best pipe I've used, well besides the simonini.
