peugeot simonini circuit mounting

hey, i have the simonini ciruit pipe for my peugeot with the gilardoni kits, and the pipe has a spring retainer... and i have no idea where to attach the other end... has anyone used one of these yet? i dont know whether to try to fit it onto the intake or what... its 2 springs that connect to the pipe on the sides of the header. there is no clamp or anything on the exhaust port to header, so i need to figure out where the springs are supposed to attach.

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

yup! i have a simonini circuit exhaust on my ciao. the retainer spring can be mounted in several places. not sure how many head bolts are on a peugeot but on a ciao, there are three. you can put it on the nut, then screw it on, then use vica grips to stretch it down orloop it through the decomp valve spring. either way is fine

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

sweet. i actually searched and saw it on your ciao... i dont know if it will work because of the different angles, though... the hooks on the header are actually underneath the cylinder, and the studs are at an upward angle... so how is that ciao running? i picked up an SI for 50 bucks, and im slowly getting around to messing with it.

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

i would try not to attach the springs to the head of the engine but rather the cylinder, i have seen setups with springs holding exhuasts on that went tot he head of the bike and it cuased enough pressure over a few weeks to warp the head so that there was always aleak between the head and the cylinder. I think it happens becuase the springs are pulling so hard on the head in a perpendicular direction to the dierction of the cylinder studs, and cuasing the 2 to be pulled asque.

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

do you think it would be ok to take the bolt on part of the exhaust port and grind notches out for the springs to seat on either side? on the edges of the bolt-holes?

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

my ciao has enough space at the end of the head stud, where i can fit an extra nut on the end AFTER the initial nut. not actually behind it.

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

so the spring is screwed in between two nuts

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

Cory, You may want to put a cross/stabilizer bar between your two forks so that they travel up and down equally when hitting a bump. The puch forks come stock with one that the fender is attached to with bolts. I wasn't using one for a while and it resulted in a minor crash

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

yeah i know, there's one on there now....i just haven't finished the build. thats a progress photo. there are a lot of things that are diffrent now than on that photo. the u bend i had an extra one from an old maxi fender, i've got one on my grey bike in my photo too. i also have the side mount intake on there as well

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

Probably more due to unequal amount of torque on the cylinder head bolts. They took two bolts or nuts off, put the springs on, and screwed them back on without retorqing all of the head bolts/studs. Either that or the springs being there caused the head to cool unevenly causing the warp, but I doubt it.

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

well, i got the pipe mounted with some little plates i fabbed up that the exhaust port bolts go through... but the pipe has a leak at the junction where the pipe goes overtop of the bolt-on exhaust port. AND... when the motor variates, the can hits the swingarm. so i guess the best idea to get the silencer to clear the frame is to put a torch to it and give it a little bend? i had to take the chain tensioner bracket off, because the can was hitting that, too...

Re: peugeot simonini circuit mounting

cool, got a pic of it?
