Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

Learning and finding direction for my 40. Leaning towards a low, fat little cruiser. Want to keep my sidepanels, considering a Brooks B18 saddle, leather grips, ordered drop bars from '77 already, sava mc11s, '76 vintage stickers. Thinking a short fork, a big pipe... not sure where to go. Show me your favourite 40s! All styles, all budgets!

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

She's actually a deep green :). Nice and rich - marshall rocks

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

Are they shipping UPS? You better hope that they aren't or that pair of bars will magically double in price.

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

I like the stock seat better visually, it is also cheaper to reupholster, and less painful then a Brooks saddle.

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

Well I've got a big order coming usps, so hopefully it doesn't break me. As for the brooks, the b18 is a wide flat "lady's" seat - and I ride a new swallow on my '61 Legnano and it don't hurt a bit :)

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

heh, i was trying to buy a motobecane 40T from a guy ten minutes away from where i live, but he wants over 900 for a rusty old untitled moby. and thats just way too much.

that green is one of my favourite colours. hope you enjoy it. and i hope to see you at a moped rally next year in the big city.

heres my moby, not rigid, but its beautiful in my eye.

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

Armor-all is not your friend sir. The solvents in it are too hot and it's well known to dry out plastic and rubber, making you dependant on 'another coat' to keep it looking fresh.

Try Meguiars' #41, 4x the price and sparsely available but much, much better for your plastic and rubber.

Nice bike though!

What's that white-tail in the back?

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

Eliot, thanks for the pics. What bars / fork are you running? I'm itching to replace my fork, it feels... inadequate, and too long.

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

Nevermind just read they're 102s. I'm not cutting my frame. Looking into Hobbits. Jesus, there's a lot to know.

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

You aren't kidding Rat, $900 is ridiculous for a Motobecane of any model not new in the box. You have to wonder where these guys come up with prices like that, especially with winter coming in anti moped Ontario. I ran across a guy who wanted $500 for one of those things, not running, broken headlight, buckshee wiring, holes drilled in rear rack, certainly repairable but not for that money. Needless to say I passed on it

Re: Inspirational Concours - Moby 40

You know - if you love something enough, buy it, if you can.

I'm not saying people should have license to rip people off for mobys, but hell, they aren't making any more.

I consider myself lucky to own one.

I had a guy offer me $200 for the headbadge off my Legnano this summer. It felt like a slap in the face. Why would I dessicrate such a piece?

Things sometimes aren't worth just what you paid for them.

I had to spend two hours convincing a guy to sell me a nuovo record headset for the above-mentioned bike a while ago. They DON'T MAKE them anymore.

Anyway, bullet point - how long does it take you to earn $900? How long would it take you to build a moby from scratch?

I'm not selling mine, put it that way.
