trying to understand the spark plug

I have a 2 speed Puch Magnum and it has an NGK B6HS plug currently. It is gapped at .022 in. The Puch manual recommends .016-.020, if I recall correctly. What differences could I expect if I regapped at .018 or .016? The bike is running well now, but could there be a performance increase? I know that I could simply test it to get the results, but I would like to know if others could explain the changes and why the changes would be expected.

Thanks a lot folks!

Re: trying to understand the spark plug

It'll either run worse or better. Only one way to find out. change the gap and see how it peforms.
