I punched the old cup and cone set up out and took a measurement...
1.375"
R10 bearings will fit nicely in there
and step me up to a 5/8 inch axle
oooh. keep us posted as to how this works out, i have a set of wheels i need to put new cups, cones, and axle in, i would totally swap it out if i could.
ouch, seven bucks a piece from mcmaster
anybody have a cheaper source?
would stainless be worth it?
I called my local bearing supplier and got a quote of $9.75 each for double sealed. Is it worth it? I think so, my swing arm design depends that I get sealed bearings in the wheels so I can pass an axle bolt from one side to the other. Plus these are sealed bearings, son! Sealed! yo! no grease to smear on your brakes, nessesitating another cleaning. Another Plus, Big ASS axle. five eighths of and inch in diameter. I like big axles, they are harder to bend...Thats how I think.
crackstar
pop!
where did you get the axels? and please elaborate on the installation. :D
I will do a detailed photo essay install extravaganza when the bearings come in. The axle is gonna be a 5/8 inch bolt. Just a regular old bolt grade 8 of course...
sweet. i wanna try this as well on some snowflakes, that i will be getting.
How are you going to keep the bearings in place I wonder.
just make sure you make some kind of plastic inner sleeve for inner race. it should be exactly the OD of whatever axle you are using. the sleeve keeps the inner race from getting pushed off axis when you tighten the axle nuts down on the outside.
