Dellorto on a Puch

So I was running a bing 12 (64 jet) and no air filter with a proma circuit exhaust on my newport (e50). I was riding it around and it started leaking and I just got some dellorto 14/12's so I figured I throw one on.

A little modding was necessary to get it to fit with a 14 intake, but it doesn't run all that great. There was a 62 in and it wouldn't idle, so I switched to a 58 and again it doesn't idle. It did run really strong with the 62 with very noticable power, but with the 58 it runs just like the bing. I want it to run with the 62.

So again, it won't idle, and I need to know if the SHA is able to run at a slight angle like the PHBG. I have it at like 3-5 degrees which I don't think should make a difference, but it only runs from 1/4 to full throttle. I got some pantyhose on there and it helped but I'm stumped. With the 62 it should have some crazy (for stock) low/midrange and a top speed around 35. Ideas?

Re: Dellorto on a Puch

Is the dellorto new or used?

used, but thoroughly cleaned and free of leaks.

nothing?

Re: Dellorto on a Puch

It doesn't idle with the 62 & 58? Try a 64, or the other jets with the air filter off. See what the difference is.

Re: Dellorto on a Puch

I once put a 12.12 Dellorto on a bike to replace the 12.10 on it, with the hopes of getting more power out of the pipe I put on it. It wouldnt idle no matter what and would only go 20 mph. Dellortos seem to be weird when taken out of their native application.

acting on OG leefungchow /

air leak dude. make that shit proper!

Re: Dellorto on a Puch

I'm with Zach on this one. Air Leak. Changing the main jet should have no effect on how the bike idles.

Wierd, I wonder where its leaking. I put the bing on, but I still want this to work. There is much better power in the dellorto.

Re: Dellorto on a Puch

Probably leaking where it slides over the manifold. I always use a (I believe) #14 o-ring on original Puch intakes. That I stick in the carb before pushing it on the manifold. You can get the o-rings at any hardware store.

Re: Dellorto on a Puch

Im having the same problem and cant find anything at the hardware store. What section are the o rings in? Does the #14 stand for 14mm?

thanks

Re: Dellorto on a Puch

check for airleaks by running it at the lowest possible rpm you can get it to (as close to idle as you can) and the spraying around suspect areas with carb cleaner. if it goes snotty and dies then you found the leak!

when i drilled out 14.12 to 14.14 and installed it was idling high and lean. i checked around the intake by spraying brake cleaner. when i hit where the carb clamped to the intake the bike would die!! used a new plastic piece and bam it idled perfect.

on the SHA carbs you NEED to make sure the idle passage is clear tho, its a TINY passage at the bottom of the throttle slide that is aligned to the emulsion tube passages. if thats not clear, it will not idle.
