Kitted Puch Woes

Here's the set up

-70cc tccd cylinder

-21 mm dell orto with a 92 jet

-techno estoril

-30:1 mix for break in purposes.

ok so here's the problem:

A couple of weeks ago i had the ped put together and it was running fine. Then this past weekend it started sputtering and backfiring. I thought it was the pipe being clogged so i took take off and tried to see if would start without a pipe on. ...nothing. I checked the carb and it was clean. I'm getting spark ( i get spark when i turn the flywheel with my hand), i have compression, and gas is flowing to the carb. I also noticed that when I turn the flywheel by hand gas and oil sprays out of the exhaust port. I've tried adjusting the timing and still nothing. I'm stumped as to what problem could be. Could it be the condensor?

any help would be appreciated.

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

absolutely either the condensor or the points. the points break a lot more often than the condenser but shit you might as well replace both. seattle mopeds has the puch condensers with the screw on top and the good puch points. buy both and install both. new points are a MUST on a kitted bike like that.

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

yeh, Harry's proboly right those are two inexpensive parts that should be replaced anyway... can I call you harry? I think it's cute...

anyway, it may just be the plug because of all that oil, I know you said it had spark but sometimes a "nearly broken plug" can spark in open air, but not under compression. I had a mystery problem like that once, and I did all of the above... it worked alot better but still kinda weird. so I replaced the(what seemed to be OK) plug and Perfecto!

Also it is supposed to shoot stuff outta the exhaust port, thats just how the motor works.

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

I looked at your picture and it looks like you have no air filter on that thing! dang dude, at least put some pantie hose over that!

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

Thanks both of you for your advice and help. I suspected that it was an electrical thing. The pic in my profile is the engine on my magnum. Here's a couple of pics of the ped that I'm talking about in this thread.

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

are those korado forks?

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

Nope, they are Cos.ta. forks that i got from handy bikes from about a year ago.

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

Hi Jae, yeah, change the spark plug first. If it doesn't start, then the points & condenser. And that bike looks great too! Good job! Call me if you need to. See ya in Tampa. Brent

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

Are those rear turn signals or 2 tail lights? Those clip-on bars are HOT btw ! Nice Job. Brent

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

Tell me about those oh-so-hot 17in white walls!

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

thanks Brent !

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

HA HA! They are actually Michelin Gazelles that have been painted. I was orginally goin gto paint the lettering but due to my inability to paint inbetween the lines i decided to make them white walls.

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

ohhhhh....that's a sexy ped

Jet is way to big floodng the crankcase...

Hence the sputtering, fouling the plug and dying.

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

VERY NICE MAXI JAE!!!

Damn that looks hot.

Love the clip ons...

I hope to see it in Tampa on the 3rd!

Justin

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

Re: Kitted Puch Woes

Hey Jae, nice bike!

I'm at Patrick AFB, about 40 mins outside Orlando. We should meet halfway and go riding sometime.

update

So...here's the deal. I swapped the stator plate with a running pinto's i have laying around I got maybe 30 feet and it died out on me. I'm if a condensor acts differently under different conditions for example...50cc vs. 70cc. or a HC vs. a normal cylinder head.

Any opinions are welcome.
