Bullet On Sachs

Ok so I got my tecno bullet exhaust today. I tried cutting off the flange and puting it on, but its too small even when I widened it out. I have and extra header that can be welded on but I don't have a welder, and I would rather go with clamping it on. Anyone done this before or no how to do this ? Shouldn't it fit on just like a tomos biturbo ?

Re: Bullet On Sachs

IMO you shouldn't have sliced off the header flange. What I did was I drilled out the header and used the flange to very lightly hammer the header onto the cylinder, just some light tapping on either side of the flange and it fits on snugly. The bullet pipe _will_ fit as long as the opening is larger than 28.5mm it should twist or hammer right on.

What others have done is sliced off the header flange and cut three slits 1inch down the header just like on the stock Sachs pipe then used a clamp to secure it. This is the only option available to you now.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

I have seen straps of various kinds around the engine and then around the header to help hold it on once you get it on

Re: Bullet On Sachs

this thing isnt even coming close to going on. I cut 2 slits and bored out a little bit of the inside of the top of the header. And it goes on probably about a quarter inch. How did you guys get yours on.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

You've got to twist a jam it in there, trust me the exhaust port is alot tougher than it looks you can use some force if you need to. Make sure that when you enlarge the header you go at least 1" deep into the pipe, that's probably where your problem is. Dig deeper and dig wider.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Awsome its gettin there. Thanks dude

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Oh I just noticed that you have the tapered 505A cylinder head, that's not good that cylinder is very restrictive. Be prepared to lose alot of lowend power when you get that Bullet pipe up and running. I've got a kit on my 505 and my low-end has not been affected much at all. For the Sachs I think a cheap kit is a better option than trying to squeeze a pipe on. Back when I had the stock exhaust I was cruising along 36mph-40mph, plenty fast enough to keep up with traffic and won't cook the engines internals like we see these Polini-kitted Puch riders do.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Excuse me, I have the 505D. Strongest of the Sachs 5-series.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Yea Im more concerned with top end than low end. Plus ill be getting a kit in a few months.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

What is your gearing like? Stock 11/46?

Re: Bullet On Sachs

you have a 505d on what bike? The one in your profile?

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Yeah the rectangular head, lots of powers.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

jafars what gears are you running?

where did you find sprockets?

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Right now I'm running 11/36th gearing. I prefer 11/40th but the rpms go way way high I can feel the engine vibrating left and right in a scary way so the 11/36th keeps the rpms down, the loss of 4 teeth make a difference. My source of sprockets is from people right here on mopedarmy, it's the first thing I ask for when I see people parting out you have to keep your eyes and ears open.

I have in reserves: 40th, 40th, 46th, 46th, 42th (don't remember where I put the 42 but I definitely have it)

I think I'm pretty much done with the 46th sprocket, it gives silly torque but topspeed is reduced by as much as 8-10mph when compared to using the 36th gearing. The 11/36th has good torque, think Tomos, but that is only because I've got a kit on it. With a stock setup get this it took over a MINUTE to hit your max 38mph, not a joke I was pedalling like Lance Armstrong at every stoplight and every stopsign three years ago and one time it even sputtered to a halt as rpm's dropped on a large hill and I had to push it up in front of like 15 people (head held HIGH!) but you get the idea.

For a completely stock setup I'd recommend that you go no lower than 11/40th and to keep your bike as light as possible, no EBR forks and no heavy duty shocks.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

i would kill for a 40T ! sell me one.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Same here.

Re: Bullet On Sachs

Sorry guys but I'm working on two Sachs projects right now and 40th is the new standard. 40th sprockets seem to be exceedingly rare on this continent but over in ebay Germany they come up on ebay every so often. search for "KETTENRAD Hercules" but be warned they're fairly expensive.
