Peugeot 102 carb/pipe

Hi all,

So I think I'd like to eventually put a bigger carb and a nicer pipe on my peugeot 102. I'd like to get a carb that will work well with the stock pipe, since it'll be a few months until I can afford a new pipe (I can buy a carb now though.) Eric Sabatino suggested a Dellorto 14.12, which seems reasonable to me given how tiny the intake and ports are.

So, the real question is: which pipe? It looks like the stock pipe that came with the bike is a two-piece (or it has been broken), so I can use the exhaust header if needed. Note that this is for a 102, not a 103 (non-variated, stationary piston-ported engine).

Any suggestions?

Re: Peugeot 102 carb/pipe

Is 14.12 the size of the carburetor venturi, or is one side 14mm and the other 12mm? As far as I am concerned if one side is 12mm then you have a 12mm carb. If the venturi is 14.12mm it sounds like an acceptable size, I don't know about the 102 but the original Gurtner on my 103 has a positively tiny venturi, I doubt whether it is even 10mm. Where is the break on the original muffler?

Yeah, the carb and intake are tiny on my 102. I think it's a 9mm carb...

And yes, the X.Y notation indicates the venturi measurements on each side.

There's about a foot and a half of exhaust header. I haven't taken a close look at the stock exhaust, so I don't know if it's actually broken or just comes apart normally. Lots of little things were broken with this bike though, so I wouldn't be too surprised...

In any case, the header should be salvageable, at least.

Re: Peugeot 102 carb/pipe

It comes apart. Try a 2 piece biturbo, see how you like it. I'm sure a skeeter has one, that you could try for a weekend or something.

Do a 14.12, but make it into a 14.14. You might need to get a new plastic shim for the carb, I don't think(its been a while) that it will fit on the stock intake. Also, it wouldn't hurt to see if you can find an intake that would fit the cylinder. The stock intake is really thin, and from memory, can't be drilled out easily. I might be mistaken on that, though.

Yeah, I was thinking of a two-piece biturbo since I've got the header...

It's not terribly thin. I have two intakes, so I could drill one out and not worry about it much. It does have a 90 degree bend in it though. Maybe I should take it into the machine shop, and see what the dudes there have to say. I'm pretty sure it matches the intake port on the cylinder, but I haven't measured it.

Re: Peugeot 102 carb/pipe

Most likely you would need an aftermarket intake, either that or you would have to make one. I can't see going from a 9mm ID to a 12 or a 14mm by boring out a 9mm intake, you might hit 11mm tops that way but it isn't worth it. I also don't see the point in calling something a 14:12 when in reality the air flow is limited to the 12mm end of it, why not use a 14:14 with a jet to match?

I'd be very surprised if there are aftermarket intakes available for the 102.

A big unstated part of my question is "what works well with a mostly stock bike?" I'd like to do fairly little to this bike, but I do want to keep up in rides and have it take me up the hill I live on...
