Polini Tuning Question

Hey guys, I'm breaking in a ported polini kit on my Free Spirit and it's running really well but i'm afraid i will blow it up this weekend (total letdown) with the set up i have now. 82 jet/ 15 bing carb / bing hi flow air filter/ 6 plug.

I've been told by G and Lee that the 6 plug is way too hot for the polini, but it rides sooo good this way, and I foul 7's.

Even with the 82 jet and 6 plug I have black oil on the plug. If I put a 7 in with the 82 I bog down at takeoff and eventually just foul the plug because it's way too fat.

I'm about to try an 80 jet and 7 plug and see how it goes, but if my bike runs better the other way am I risking blowing it up at the rally (long hard rides)?

Any advice?

Re: Polini Tuning Question

I ran a 6 for all of the blood Drive, which included miles and miles of top speed runs at 45+. Don't worry about the plug temperature, G and Lee have a lot of superstitions about mopeds.

Re: Polini Tuning Question

Heather what pipe are you running these days? Also what ratio are you mixing your oil at? One more, is your case port matched?

An 80-82 seems low in my opinion for your setup. But I say try the 80 and see with the plug looks like.

Also where is your timing set?

Re: Polini Tuning Question

I really hate that you're mixing 40:1...I still think 50:1 is fine.

Re: Polini Tuning Question

i run all my peds at 41:1

heather, your 6 will be fine. unless you mill the head WAY down, you won't have to worry about it.

as long as your plug chops come out kinda rich, i'd say you have nothing to worry about.

see you this weekend!

Re: Polini Tuning Question

Funny, I put this out on the general forum and you guys are the ones to respond. Big love.

I am running a biturbo, my case is port matched (thanks David). I am mixing 40:1 Motul 800 & sometimes 710. Timing is advanced.

Re: Polini Tuning Question

thanks dean, see you friday.

by the way the 80 with a 7 ran great all night. my pipe blew sparks all down the great highway.

Re: Polini Tuning Question

wtf are you using a stock pipe? and stock airbox?

how can you be running an 80 jet on a polini? a case matched polini?!

Re: Polini Tuning Question

Harold, it's a mystery to all of us. But I'm pretty damn fast and it feels sooooooo good.

Heather, I'm getting flak for running a stock airbox (opened up) and a stock exhaust (de-restricted) as well. What speed are you hitting with your polini?

Flak as in, I'm catching hell from a few members for doing it.

Re: Polini Tuning Question

Nathan, I have a biturbo and high airflow box. But I tried my stock airbox opened up and it wasn't to bad.

I have no idea 'cuz my speedo only goes to 30. I'm sure I'm not breaking any records, I'm just happy to climb hills.

Last night I tried to get Paz to clock me on his motorcycle but he refused to look over.
