a few questions on upgrading.

i was just wondering what he best/most cost efficient way of upgrading the speed/power of my bike. ive already got a a biturbo exhaust and was thinking of perhaps putting a speed kit in it. what would be my best option for that?

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

What type of moped?

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

shit, that was dumb. its a 1978 puch maxi

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

If you get a speed kit you should also make sure you have a large enough carb/intake.

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

Depending on your budget there are a ton of options with a puch.

What are you looking for? Do you just want to go balls out fast or just trying to pickup a few mph cruising speed and a little midrange power?

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

i still just have the stock carb/intake. say i wanted to get a 70 cc kit, do i need to upgrade my carb first?

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

you don't have to, but the kit would benefitt from it for sure. You'd have to change your jetting no matter what. A 64cc Polini kit and a 14mm carb will yeild good results.

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

i was looking to spend under 200 dollars. i am just trying to go a bit faster and have the power to get going a bit quicker.

Yeah, you're in the right range. However, you need to have a goo starting point. What size of carburetor do you have right now? You can check by looking at the number stamped on the intake manifold. If it's 12, you may want to replace it. If it's 14, you are in business.

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

actually, the number on the manifold will tell you the manifold size. the number on the carb, itll be something like 12/00/000 tells you the carb size. if it says 12, its a 12. 14, its a 14, etc. not sure what the other numbers mean but are probably slight model changes. check it out and tell us what you've got.

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

its a 12 >.<

You gonna need a crank shaft that can take the thrust or you bend the stock one all out of shape and there is more....

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

yea, definitely go 14 or 15 then.

i got lucky and got a 14 stock on my maxi sport ls, which i ended up throwing on my newport. saving up this year to get a polini kit and a proma circuit exhaust...soonish. hopefully next riding season that'll happen.

Another cylinder kit and carb will do wonders.

Another crankshaft is not always needed. In the Vespa/Piaggio scene, a stock crankshaft is stronger than nearly all tuned or fast model crankshafts, however it will be slower and lack power.

I have this package calculated under if you are interested from my shop;

- Airsal 70cc Aluminium cylinder kit. You can use your stock head. Otherwise I have a matching high performance-pressure head.

- A 15mm carb. (Bing model; imitation version).

- An exhaust too! Proma circuit.

This will end you under 200. To be exact 189 dollars.

I have other parts which will be similar and range you around 200 dollars.

Shipping still needs to be added. Probably be something like 31 or 43 dollars. Takes 4 to 8 days.

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

Your profile says that you are 15. Can you legally ride at 15 in your state?

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

yeah, i think its 14 and 8 months or something.

Re: a few questions on upgrading.

i have a biturbo already...and i kinda wanna keep my bike looking somewhat stock so i dont really want the proma. if i took out the exhaust and threw in that high performance head how much would it be?
