Worthy upgrades for my 1980 Vespa Grande

I just yesterday got a 1980 Vespa Grande. Im looking to upgrade it to have a higher top end speed and have more acceleration. Im new to peds and dont know what is best. The engine runs fine and sounds like I could get a lot more out of it.

If someone could through me some opinions on upgrades and links to where I could get them for this bike, that would be great.

Thanks and Cheers!

Grimreaper, I'm totally behind you!

I prefer Vespa/Piaggio over the Puch mopeds.

But anyways, nick/ballsdeep, I have plenty of performance parts in stock if you are interested; cylinders, exhausts, even other engines and plenty more.

www.MoParts.tk - still busy with the Vespa (Ciao/Si/Bravo/Grande/etc.) forum.

Colby's right, don't waste your time. Like the Guru says, "three head bolts" :shakes head:

haha, three head bolts... if only we had four so it would take more time to take off the cylinder head and be confused by that special way the fourth bolt comes off. I also wish my clutch and transmission were all packed in with the engine.

All fun aside, vespa engines are really a trip once you take them apart and realize how well designed everything is. People joke about the subframe and the rear transmission, but Vespas are well designed and were built to be ridden stock. I think this is why Puch followers hate them so much. It takes more skill and time to do it right. You can't just slap an estoril and polini on it and go. :D

I like mopeds, though. It is all good.

After kitting different mopeds, I would say the vespa is the most expensive to get to 40mph. sorry.
