1976 Motobecane 40T

Andrew Degeorge /

Hey all, I just bought a rust bucket moby 40T. This is my first journey into mopeds. I’ve purchased what I believe to be all the right parts for the restore. Any helpful hints or good vibes are welcome! ✌️

If you’re putting as much money in parts into that bike as you stated in your profile, I hope you’re planning on keeping it.

That’s the plan!

Well, looks like I gotta follow this thread. I speak a little Motobecane, hit me up if you get stuck. These bikes are full of idiosyncrasies.

Will do, my parts get in this week, I ended up getting a new av7 motor, but I’m already confused by this broken speedo cable that came on the bike. Looks like there are 2 ports on the front wheel for it. What’s that all about?

So it can spin in reverse, very retro or actually very thoughfully engineered for future variable applications.

Makes sense. Thanks for the insight.

I am in the process of rebuilding a 50V if you want to read up on what I have done to mine here is the link

Stripped mine down to the bare frame and just took it piece by piece and cleaned, rebuilt, polished, painted and reassembled. Cleaning the gas tank is the first step.

Mike is a good guy to ask questions and can help you out. I haven't been working on mine lately as it's just too cold in the garage and can't ride it anyways this time of year.

Lots of good help in the Wiki section. Good luck with your project

Hey Mike, I’m stuck on the wiring harness that came with the AV7 Motor. It looks like it has extra wires from the stock motor. Any helpful hints?

Snap a photo of what you’ve got going on. Someone may have made some changes at some point. Seeing what’s going on will help.

Thanks for the help. These are the new Wires that came with the engine circled in yellow. I also circled the bikes connections in black. I have a new cdi box as well, I’m just not sure what goes where.

You have an upgraded/aftermarket CDI.
