A55 Transmission Issue.

Was relining my Tomos 1st Gear Clutch Pads. After finishing and replacing my crankcase and pedal I noticed the pedals seems to move freely both forward and backwards. Sometimes when going backwards it would catch and the engine will turn over as it should. I don't know what I've messed up but it doesn't seem to have affected anything but the pedals functioning. The bike runs much better now with the new pads. Any advice or for warning about what has happened? I'm not very experienced but I'm sure I put everything back together the way it was originally.

I don't think my pedals really functioned before. Like as far as pedals are supposed to be used. I do have to constantly use the pedals to start the bike as the electric start is out.

Sometimes the engagement catches going backwards, some bikes are worse than others maybe depending on wear or whatever, you have find neutral position just perfect on some bikes so the pedals don’t move but if you did something wrong during the rebuild so it catches all the time then I don’t know

So I found out I left my Countershaft Thurst Washer out when putting everything back in. Can anyone help me figure out where the correct location for this part is?

Re: A55 Transmission Issue.

Take a look at the tranny diagram. Make sure the peanut spring sits in the slot, and take a minute that your not missing anything, again check against the diagram.

Got the countershaft thrust washer back on. That's the good news. Now I've noticed I can see this part rotating freely. Is that bad? It's in behind the gear that has the bike chain around it

Any help is greatly appreciated. Is this piece supposed to rotate freely with the pedal shaft or should it stay in place?

Re: A55 Transmission Issue.

The loop part fits in this part of the case which is what keeps it from rotating.

Is that the peanut I hear everyone refferring to? So i just pop the part that sticks off into the peanut shape and assemble everything back properly? Then I should be in good shape right? As far as that clip goes

In order to fix this I'm going to have to pull all the gears, shims, and washers out to get to it aren't I? This is going to be fun...

Yep that's the peanut, it fits into that slot in the case. It's a little tricky to get it in just the right spot until you've done it a few times.

Thank you guys. I'm certain that is what has been causing my original pedal shaft issue. Glad to know it's not catastrophic. I'm about to kit out my revival. I've ordered like $400 in parts so I can't afford to have anything major break in the transmission.

Follow up question, is there a clip that needs to be placed into the peanut on both sides of the bike?

From the crankcase side I'm only able to see one freely moving, but I worry there may be another one opposite of it that I need to get to. Thanks for the help!

Anybody?

Re: A55 Transmission Issue.

So... take a studied look at the diagram. A35/55 trannies r the same.

Important, the spring has some resistance on that collar.

It all just wiggles together, remember wiggle and peanut into slot...
