MBK Le Partie CDI

Hello! I was experiencing intermittent spark, now non-existent. Currently I have the motor in a vice, with everything grounded to the intake studs. Timed to 1.3mm BTDC

I read up to 50 volts from the wires to the HT Coil, but get almost nothing after the HT Coil. HT Coil shows continuity between the poles. Kill switch and lights are disconnected.

Can I swap in any old ignition coil to rule out my Turkey Baster? Or is there somewhere else I should be checking with my DMM? I have a new CDI Box on the way, but I'm in Canadaland, and impatient.

You're not supposed to meter the plug side of the HT coil, high probability of damaging your meter as it's typically thousands of volts.

Also you probably get nothing because the sampling rate of your meter isnt fast enough.

AFAIK, the HT coil is not a common failure, but the pickups on these typically go

Youre grounding the ht to the intake?

I’ve seen plug caps go bad, or connection from the plug wire into the ht being loose. The plug wire often screws into the coil.

Btw get a scooter retarding cdi on this and set timing much more advanced, like 1.8-2mm

Will still run safe timing up top but you’ll get a big boost down low

Dang! Here I thought I hit follow, and I missed all this gold.

I have a new box arriving today or tomorrow, with curve (Transval... but I am curious about those aliexpress boxes linked in one of Jbot's posts).

I'm still combing through repair posts learning how to test each component just in case. Thanks for all the replies!

i bought one oof aliexpress but it turns out is isnt a retarder. can anyone link e to a good retarder cdi that will work with le partie?
