Puch e50 2 Shoe Clutch Question

roots to wings /

having a slight rumble on maxi takeoff that feels like rear wheel bearings, but its a brand new wheel with sealed bearings and the wheel spins forever, so i don't think it's bearings and wondering if it could be clutch, but not sure what to look for. original 2 shoe on a mild kit 1640 gearing with kickstart springs ran fine for a long time even with way too much tension on the springs (53 lbs). clutch probably has 8k miles on it. I thought 3 turns in from flush was 3, 360 degree turns which is how i got the tension so high. 0-20w for fluid. once my clutch fully engages at 30mph or so, everything seems fine. only happens on takeoff and it seems to be getting worse. I know part of the answer is takeoff and inspect, but what am I looking for?

Re: Puch e50 2 Shoe Clutch Question

Look for bent clutch posts, missing clutch pad material, etc

Re: Puch e50 2 Shoe Clutch Question

when i kitted my first bike i changed the springs following a suggestion of 3 turns in and thought i clarified it was 360 degree turns. i realize now that was wrong, but the bike ran fine, good in fact for 16/40 gearing off the line, so i never went back and changed them. now i need shoes. will grab some claws when they are back in stock. sourced another e50 2 shoe to hold me over

Re: Puch e50 2 Shoe Clutch Question

Def check the posts on that clutch plate too

Turned out not to be the clutch. It was my shark finned rear 40T gear binding up the chain

Re: Puch e50 2 Shoe Clutch Question

53 is .... high

Re: Puch e50 2 Shoe Clutch Question

yea, the pad wear makes me think its bent.

Without having it at the shop with my large slab of true marble, I can't tell for sure.

It's sick I think my claw shoes are set to like...I don't even know how many pounds of force.

When people say 53lb, what does that correlate to?

is it 53lb of pull to get the shoe to move at all?

or is it 53lb of pull to get the shoe to max out on the pin?

I like the method of using a 2-jaw vice to set even engagement and then testing and adjusting from there.

Pull out at all the slighest amount of daylight. Bike runs so much better thru the throttle now at 1640 and actually better than 1645 bike with blues at 25 and 1640 feels way easier on the engine

Agreed. Looks bent in the pic. If you solved the problem those clutch shoes set up like that will be the next. You may want to get a new new 2 shoe and brace it. Brace plates are cheep from

DOS and worth the work.
