Suggestions for removing blind clutch bearing in a35?

I'm having a hell of a time getting the clutch side bearing removed from the trans cover for my a35 rebuild.

I've heated and smacked on a piece of wood like I read, heated and beat with wood blunted hammer...

I cant find a blind bearing puller small enough foe the 8mm bearing..

I saw a thread where someone suggested 350 degrees for 5-10 but I don't have a spare oven and worry the oil or case paint will cook off in the oven and ruin some shit. I had toyed with just buying a toaster oven and shoving it in there tho lol

Not sure what else I could do to get it out

usually use a kukko for stuff like that, but the bread trick might work. support the back of the case so you don't blow through.

Treatland has a blind bearing puller. You also need a slide hammer.

If you're not looking to get your oven funky and don't wanna buy specialty tools, great trick WILL work. I've also used paper towels in a pinch.

A small propane grill .

400° for 15 - 20 minutes .

Have the new bearing ready to drop in after the old one drops out . ;)

Re: Suggestions for removing blind clutch bearing in a35?

I gave up on the torch and just put my za50 case in the oven, set it to preheat to 375⁰ and let it preheat with the case to avoid rapid temperature changes. No issues with paint or oil baking off, just make sure it's really clean before putting it in there. Took a few rounds of heating and smacking on wood, little bits of movement each time, but eventually they came out. (edited)

I have a bearing puller already, that's how I pulled the others but have no 8mm collet and treats doesn't either

I think I'll light up some coals and stick it on the grill lol. I forgot I could do that.

Bread or Wax. A punch n a hammer.

Re: Suggestions for removing blind clutch bearing in a35?

I grinded down the smallest blind puller i could find reasonably priced. I think it was 10mm and 10 bucks. 3 smacks with the slide hammer and the bearing was out. Those 8mm bearing can be stubborn.

I just weld a nut to them, sometimes the heat from welding alone poops it loose

Shoved some sourdough in there and it popped out eventually.

Re: Suggestions for removing blind clutch bearing in a35?

In a pinch ive done it this way with grease. Save the oven for baking bread Nancys...

Re: Suggestions for removing blind clutch bearing in a35?

glad the bread trick worked. thought it might.

Re: Suggestions for removing blind clutch bearing in a35?

Glad the bread method worked, I never had luck with that.

It was either here or a scooter forum, I read about someone putting cases in an oven bag to avoid having the house smell like burnt oil. Seems pretty genius, but I am not sure I would want to risk it unless my wife was going to be gone for a week.

I have had good luck welding a nut to the bearing too. I have found that it is important to protect the cases, a big washer can be used to protect the area around the bearing.

I rented a blind puller set from Advanced Auto, I was able to pull some tiny bearings from my last rebuild. Came with a slide hammer. It is free to rent and was the easiest route I have taken for removing a really tight bearing.
