Looking for tips to troubleshoot no spark

So this question is actually for a trail bike (1970 Suzuki TC120), but since its an older bike its pretty similar to the mopeds i have, Its kick start only, and the stator is very similar to a 3 coil vespa stator.

The issue I'm having is that I just can't get a reliable spark from it. I think out of the hundreds of attempts so far I've gotten it to spark twice. At this point i bought a new stator for it (a 4 wire stator from a 73 TC120 to replace the 5 wire stator that came on the bike) and i also got a new ignition coil for it, but it just wont spark for me. I've even tried bypassing the key switch entirely and plugging the black/yellow wire from the stator directly into the ignition coil and still no luck.

Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips, or know what values I should get while testing the leads from the stator with a multimeter? One odd thing is that when I'm testing the voltage coming from the black/yellow stator wire, when I kick and have my meter set to AC, I see a jump in voltage, but then it goes to overload within a second. I wouldn't think that I would be getting a high enough value to get an OL reading that quickly.

Beach Club Nick /

I bet you $10 if you file/sand/clean the points it'll spark bright and consistently.

Dang I was gonna suggest the same thing. Missed out on that easy cash. Ask more questions if you run into more problems.
