VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I ordered a VDM puch parts e50 kickstart conversion kit and I can not get the lever to spring return. Anyone else have this issue? Solutions?

The mechanism glides smoothly when the spring is removed. With the spring in, the mechanism have move resistance and does not return.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

Here are some pictures.

If I use the supplied shims, there is a gap between the conversion plate and clutch cover.

If i remove the shim, the kickstart gear hits and engine case and can not be tightened down.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

Maybe smaller shim + thick gasket?

I mean I'm not there to see exactly what you're dealing with, but grab a grinder w/soft wheel and make it work...

I sure as fuck wouldn't let shit like that hinder my ride, nor would I bring that minor issue here. Figure it out bro... Do you want to ride, or not? It's mopeds...

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I bought one of these years ago and had similar issues. A matter of of sanding/grinding parts to fit.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

Seemed like a perfectly reasonable post to me...

Yeah if I buy parts from Europe I kinda expect them to fit and would double check before I go ape shit with the Dremel so I see where this dude's coming from

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

It is pretty annoying for the price.

I already went ape shit with the dremel. I took the shim off of the kickstart gear and trembled a recess into the case.

I emailed Johan at VDM puch parts and he said "When you tighten the bolts you need to press the pedal down and up. This way everything centers correct. Also oil is important and the plate will still wear in a little bit so everything glides better."

There is still no return. I guess I will give it some time to wear.

If you're tired of messing with it, I'll buy the conversion plate from you.

Also, I'm not seeing a return spring...

You're missing parts, hence improper recoil.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I am not done with it....yet. Yes I have the spring, it was not in the picture

I mucked around with the kickstarter today. I think the issue is the VDM spring easily deforms and wants to ride over the plastic guide. I am going to try the treat land spring and see if there is any difference.

Hell, I’ve been just starting mine with my cordless for the past 6 months. I have the complete kickstart assembly on my shelf, just been slacking on shelling out the $$$ for the VDM adapter plate.

Best of luck, let us know how you make out. (edited)

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

Hi, I have read on a Danish moped forum that there are two variants of engine blocks with different axles. a 58.5mm axle and a 53.3mm

(Picture)

Another thing, it is also often necessary to give the kickstart shaft a good hit with a rubber mallet or similar when you need to have

shaft and spring in place.

Broke the plastic guide today

Did you measure the length of that shaft Henrick mentioned? If yours measures big grind it down.

Stop trying to force shit to work. You are making more work for yourself.

Offer still stands if you want to sell the conversion plate....

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I picked up another Kickstart E50. Shout out to Bob's Used Motorcycle Parts

Remarkably, the kickstart mechanism worked from the Magnum X. I swapped the internals from VDM to the Magnum X clutch cover and everything glides and returns. The magnum X internals do not work in the VDM clutch cover, as they do not in the VDM clutch cover. The VDM intermediate starter gear is grinding against the Magnum X case.

IMG_0864.JPG

The intermediate starter gear from the Magnum X compared to the VDM one is 81.3mm vs. 79.7 mm wide, 54.8mm vs. 53.2mm long, and a 35.7mm vs. 33.3mm working distance respectively. The gears have some slight differences.

Also, It appears that the VDM clutch cover slot for the intermediate starter wheel is in a different position from the Magnum X clutch cover, further down and back. I believe this is why the mechanism is not working.

I need to get another kickstart clutch cover if anyone is holding.

Three rusty screws broke off in the case of the Magnum X. I tried penetrating oil and two different versions of screw removal tools. Now there are broken extractor bits inside of the broken screws. I am going to try Nitric Acid. Is Ebay the best place to buy?

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I meant to say that the Magnum X intermediate starter gear is grinding against the VDM clutch cover.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

Dang. They are close, just not close enough.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I've been following this topic. I could sell you my clutch cover but I'm keeping the guts. I ship it to you. I might need some of the guts for a kick-start Z50 I'm building.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I liked my pull start better. Make sure your bikes tuned and ready before you throw that kick-start on.

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I bought another kickstart clutch cover from Treatland and it is identical to the VDM one.

Using the kickstart cover from the puch magnum x - all of the VDM parts work, glide smoothly, and returns.

There is no return and lots of force required for both sets of gears in the VDM and treatland clutch cover

Does anyone have a E50 kickstart clutch cover for sale?

I found some differences looking at the clutch cover.

The one that works has more of a trapezoid vs. triangle and the marked line is straight

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

Will Jansen sent me an OEM kickstart cover which has the trapezoidal box and it works smooth as butter.

Will J for the win!

Re: VDM puch parts E50 kickstart conversion help

I'm having the same issue with mine after using it for a season perfectly. Now it won't return. Did drilling that whole in the case help or was that no benefit !??
