Tomos A55 con rod removal

Can anybody suggest a way to remove a con rod? I need to replace what I think is a bush bearing. Too much in/out play and knocking.

Re: Tomos A55 con rod removal

I think u use a press but it needs to be trued/aligned(tricky part). One of these days i'm gonna give it a shot.

Thanks. I'm thinking a press is needed also. I've heated it some and tried to hammer out the pin(?) but no movement.

Hammer and heat will never get that to move.

A quick Google will tell you a)you need a press and trying tools to do this job, and b) you can buy a replacement with roller bearings for like $100. Which is weirdly, probably less than you'd spend on tooling and a new conrod.

Lol just get a new crank that shit is blued up.

Re: Tomos A55 con rod removal

there's spots that'll do it, but you need someone with the press and balancing stuff and preferably some experience. It can save you a little bit versus buying a new one, but a new one's probably still better.

I used to have a dude called mopedcrankworks do mine, usually it was for rarer things or custom stuff like making a roller bearing on a ZA. It was like $75 and I dont think he's still around though i'm sure someone is. I've had friends more recently use a service some guy on ebay but I dont have the detail. Best is a new one off treats or whatever, they're not much over $100. Alternately cheaper and easy would be getting a replacement used one off ebay or denny's or buy/sell. it'd probably be under $40.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I consulted the google oracle. I can order a new crankshaft, bearings and seals for 150$ish. Just checking in with more experienced folks for tricks. There is almost always a trick or two.

I agree, Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll buy a new one. Treats has one. I do have access to a press and truing equipment so I'll use this one to learn on. Bummer tho, this one has very low mileage on it. Thanks for the moped crank works suggestion, looks like a cool guy who knows what hes doing. Cheers

Hmm , I guess that was changed . It use to be an option .

It must have been part of a recent site 'upgrade' .

Sorry to have mislead you . :(

Maybe best to quote a post so your response won't be confused for an answer to another . ;)
