Is this a clutch or variator issue?

So I don’t recall having this issue when I bought it (a couple days ago). It’s a 77 moby 40 20mph model. The last two days the moped would die if idling at a red light. I adjusted the idle screw and it’s idling now. But I can’t get it up to 20 mph only 15. And also within the last few days the clutch or is it the variator has been kicking, maybe it’s slipping. I’m new to the moped world so I’m trying to do my research before I ask questions.

Here is a video

Re: Is this a clutch or variator issue?

pull your dimoby and clean out your starter clutch arms. might be easier to run new gas, and clean the carb and check your wiring before u go messing taking out those pita clips that hold in the dimoby.

Dimoby. You have a single speed motobecane which does not variated. But to be sure does the engine swing to the rear as it picks up speed?

Re: Is this a clutch or variator issue?

I was assuming u have a dimoby because u said it does 20. what does the sticker on the tube say? 50 or 50v? the variator pulley is bigger and has the halves that open and close like a clam. the diMoby has a smaller fixed pulley.

did u clean fuel, check wires, read other post lots of stuff

I don’t think it does but the engine has room to swing I guess. I’d have to check next time I’m with the moped

The sticker says it’s a 40. 1977. Type is 20 mph there is no a, b, c letter because, from what I read, is a model before ‘78. I will be looking for instructions to grease it soon. Will I need to remove the whole motor to do this?

Re: Is this a clutch or variator issue?

no need to pull motor to remove dimoby just get eye level with it.
